So the point of this test was to figure out how the F13 paintjob will look like and I think after some small tweaks it will be exactly what I had in mind.

I think the best approach is to paint the entire model with the hairspray technique to show how it was continuously repainted with dark yellow and then green. I assume the yellow paintjob was applied at the factory where the tank was upgraded and the Olive Green was applied later in the field, so I sprayed it in very uneven and cloudy pattern, kinda simulating what a small spray gun in 1/35th scale would do.

The SU-85 guinea pig was used to test out how these effects will look on horizontal surfaces.

A few things I learned today:

1. The model must be primed in neutral grey primer. Oxide red will affect the dark yellow applied over zimmerit, and it will look darker than those areas where dark yellow was sprayed over panzer grey

2. Zimmerit makes everything look darker as well. I don't know if I'm gonna purposely paint these areas in a lighter tone or leave it as it is for extra contrast. Another thing which I learned a long time ago on modelling forums: you don't want to apply dark washes over zimmerit. You'll completely ruin the model.

3. The olive green would maybe look better if it were even more pale and desaturated.

4. Panzer grey is in very stark contrast with the rest. I might do it a bit lighter too.

5. The real tank doesn't have any zimmerit remnants on the panzer grey (those large white/tan spots often seen on damaged zimmerit), but I think I'll add them in some places.

6. I think it will look good if I vary the intesity of olive green on different parts. Let's say the turret roof could have more dark yellow showing through and the hull top could be more green.

What y'all think?

Your working speed is insane! I have hoped you would pick the F13 :)

He he, I've been working quite hard! I already fixed most errors, gouged out old weld beads and now it's ready for new armor texture. I'll post some pics later tonight!
