With more games adopting art styles reminiscent of the N64/PS1 era, which style has aged better, the blocky low res N64 or the shifty, jaggy PS1?

Ryan Dodson

Hi cohorts, just wanted to say that Kelsey is doing a fantastic job filling in for Ben. It's difficult to muster as much energy as Ben does while hosting but Kelsey is pulling it off. I loved hearing Kelsey shout "Let's Go" at the end of last week's show. So now that this year's "not E3" has passed are there any games or announcement that you wish had been there. I for one would really like for Nintendo to give us info on Metroid Prime 4 or a Switch successor.

Hey MinnMax Crew! With the release of Pikmin 1 & 2 on Switch, people have been sharing their devastating (and often hilarious) moments of losing their Pikmin online. To make them feel better, what are some of the most memorable or embarrassing mistakes you’ve made while playing games?

Call it right now! Does elephant Mario suck water up in his trunk and spit it out?

Hello Kyle and crew! In Street Fighter 6 my avatar looks like Franky from One Piece. I sat down at a cabinet and another player that looked like Luffy hopped on and we played some matches. After we were done, I noticed some people were gathered around spectating our matches. We then bid farewell with some posing for the camera. What are some of your favorite game hubs in other games? Also, who would win if they played each other in a fighting game, Franky or Luffy?

What's your favorite piece of Zelda NPC dialogue and can you do your best impersonation of it? I'm talking about whatever noise or phrase they shout out when you talk to them or leave a conversation. Mine is a tie between Purah yelling "Check it" and the Beedle yelling "Thaaaaaaaaank Yooooou"

What's your favorite Jackbox Party game?

Hey there! I’ve been going back and listening to all of the old Deepest Dives and it got me wondering: what’s your number one Deepest Dive regret? Could be anything from a game you didn’t weigh in on to an opinion gone sideways. Thanks!

Hey Maxinistas! Pride is almost over, and we just saw Grimace join the Babadook in the ranks of unlikely queer icons. So I want to know: Who is the unlikely queer icon of video games? Is it Tom Nook and his seasonal rainbow capitalism? Mother Brain because she is literally mother? The purple Pikmin (for obvious reasons)? Can't wait to hear your thoughts but mostly can't wait to force Kyle to say all this out loud.

Hello minnmax crew. What do you do with the controller when long cutscenes play. You hold on to it or put it down?

Anonymous

Hey Minnmaxers, This question is to Sarah but can be answered by anyone with the relevant experience: Who would you considered the top tier and bottom tier romance options in A Wonderful Life? Love the show!

Hey Everyone! I am very excited for Starfield and when I get excited for a game I like to consume similar feeling content to prepare myself and really get in the right mood. Recently I have been watching the new Star Trek show Strange New Worlds, the movie Interstellar, videos of Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about space, and listening to the Bobiverse Series by Dennis E. Taylor (highly recommended!). So I’d like all of your recommendations for movies, shows, books, or whatever for some of the big upcoming games this year! Thanks! Here are some of the big games and feel free to include any others: Exoprimal Baldur's Gate 3 Payday 3 Alan Wake 2 Super Mario Bros. Wonder Like A Dragon Gaiden

What games did you try long after their release date and find that they were extremely your jam? Why did you put it off? I never played the original Dead Space because I thought it'd be too scary, but I wanted to finally try it to compare to the remake, and I LOVED it. Flew through it a few days and eventually got 100% of the achievements (and of course then listened to the Deepest Dive).

Missed joke opportunity! Two weeks ago when Sarah was talking about playing the Hauntii demo after it was shown on Day of the Devs, she said that it made her tear up and that she was completely devastated on the first day of SGF. When I heard this, I couldn't believe no one on the podcast said "Day of the Devastated"

Hi everyone. If you could be the Dominant of any Final Fantasy summons, that isn't already in 16, which summon would you choose?

After reading a Kotaku piece about massive layoffs from the developer of "Season: A letter to the future", I was wondering if the market for games was oversaturated. The game was seemingly well received critically, but didn't sell enough to support a team of about ~30-40 people. I also wonder if the game pass effect (I'd check it out if it was on game pass), has made it more difficult for indie sales that don't go that route.

It’s been almost 2 months since TotK was released. It’s time to address the Dondon in the room. Is it better than Eldin Ring?

Hello Minnmax! What are two games you would combine to make your ideal game? For me two recent games are the combat and storytelling of FF16 and the exploration and puzzle solving of Tears of the Kingdom. Thanks!

Hello good folks of MinnMax! There is nothing quite more devastating in gaming as seeing your Pikmin get devoured by a Bluborb and then hearing their shrill little wails as the souls float away. Are there any other such video game experiences that have scarred your heart like-so? And if your vegetables in real life were to scream and have their souls fly away before your eyes as you ate them, would you become a carnivore?

Hello! Can we talk about the next sims 4 expansion that is about Horse and ranches and every horse-girl dream. Were you horse-girl as kids? Are you now?

Hi, MinnMax. Are you familiar with the classic Jeopardy category Before and After? You need to find two answers that share an overlapping word and combine them into one. For example: McDonald's signature burger is this kid friendly pasta dinner? The correct answer is "Big Mac and Cheese" How about we try some with video game titles? 1: In 2020, the Polish prime minister announced that this indie survival game would be added to that year's recommended reading list for Polish high schools... which might not be that impressive considering it's also the highest selling video game of all time 2: This goofy adventure game franchise about cartoon cops takes a turn when the protagonists family is murdered, leading him to become a vigilante 3: This fps was the ultimate multiplayer game before online gaming became common, but it was a little strange that it required this unusual peripheral device for the PS2 4: This wild game was originally a Nintendo console exclusive and featured parodies of Saving Private Ryan, The Matrix, and Alien, and it was also Tim Schafer's first game as project lead - a point and click classic 5. The GameCube port of this action platformer has a slightly altered name. Good thing, too, because without it you wouldn't be able to play this hilarious 2d co-op platformer from the makers of Castle Crashers 6. After "Getting Over It", Bennet Foddy helped develop this stylish, top-down indie game, it was a survival horror game where you run for your life through a mental asylum 7. A pair of jokester magicians helped create this game that was cancelled before release, it was a revolutionary first person, parkour platformer Answers Below... 1. This War of Minecraft 2. Sam And Max Payne 3. 007 GoldenEye-Toy 4. Conker's Bad Fur Day of The Tentacle 5. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Block Theater 6. Ape Outlast 7. Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirror's Edge

Hello friends. If you had an EXTRA 6 hours in a day (days were 30 hours long), what would you do? Play more games? learn how to code? art? learn a language? Anything! What would you do and why?

Hi, With Yakuza Like a Dragon and now FFXVI switching their series from action to turn based combat and vice versa are there other series that you think would benefit from this switch?

Anonymous

Hey cohorts, I’ve been seeing a lot of debate online that FF16 isn’t a “real” Final Fantasy game and isn’t even a “real” RPG because of its more character action focused gameplay. While I don’t agree with these sentiments, it did get me thinking, what makes a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game? What makes them RPGs? Are not all games RPGs? Aren’t you always playing a role in games? Please someone help me answer these so I can sleep at night again.

Hey y’all! What’s the last book you read? I’m not a big book reader but I just picked up “Will Save the Galaxy for Food” and “This is How you Lose the Time War.”

Hey, quick question about the resurgence in vinyl. What are we doing? Is it a rebellion against digitization? Do we honestly believe it sounds better? Is it the large album art? To be clear, I'm also guilty here, I collect VGM vinyl specifically and I DONT KNOW WHY, BUT I LOVE IT, SEND HELP.

What podcast app do you use? I've been using Stitcher for years, but they announced earlier today that they are shutting down in August.

How do I play games in secret at my desk at work? I am surrounded.

If the MinnMax crew got together and filmed a found footage horror movie together, which subgenre of horror would you want the movie to be and what horror archetype would you play? Also, feel free to cast Ben's role in the film.

podbod

Have you ever cheated on a test?

Anthony Brown

This isn’t a question, but I wanted to say thank you to Sarah for pushing for Chicory to be GOTY, because I finally played it and while I didn’t take, to the mechanics at first, after getting in a bit I really absolutely love it. 10/10 story, interesting gameplay, made me care about coloring and art in ways I never have before.

Let’s put it out in the air - what would your personal dream Deepest Dive be? And if you could have any guest on it, what guest would you have?

What's the nerdiest game that you like to play?

As somebody who has never played a Pikmin game before, what is the biggest selling point on the franchise?

It seems weird to say, but since Zelda released, I haven't played a single other game. What game have you played exclusively for the longest?

Jared R

Hey crew! Lately I’ve been getting videos on TikTok that chronicle the development of a game called Billie Bust Up (it’s a platformer musical that’s looking really cool!). I’ve been really enjoying seeing the game come together over time, going from concept art to full levels (and full songs!). Are there any games that you’ve either played or that are upcoming you’d want to see made as it went? Or do you think that peeking behind the curtain too much can ruin the magic of it all before you play it?

What’s the best game with the worst beginning?

Hi everyone! I am wondering which game(s) or series have your favorite balance of difficulty and why. For me it’s the NES Mega Man games. Thanks!

Most switch owners won’t have a pro controller. Do you use joycons to play tears of the kingdom or a pro controller?
