Welcome back to The MinnMax Show! On this week's episode, Ben Hanson is joined by Kyle Hilliard, Janet Garcia, and Jeff Marchiafava to reminisce about our favorite demos and demo discs of all time. Let us know your favorites in the comments. Then we unpack some great games with generous demos like Team Ninja's Sekiro-inspired Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Humanity from Enhance Games, and Octopath Traveler 2. Then we also talk about the new Dead Cells DLC that's Castlevania-themed and JeffM falling in love with Kerbal Space Program 2. After that we dive into wonderful questions submitted by the community on Patreon!

Some favorite demos: the first Halo PC demo; the demo for Pariah on PC; Battlefield 1942 on PC; Max Payne; No One Lives Forever 2

And countless demos at kiosks at Best Buy, GameStop, Funcoland, etc

Shoutout to the THPS PS1 demo delivered exclusively via Pizza Hut delivery order. It had maybe one map and we played it so much that we invented a mode we called "wrestling" but was just us knocking each other off our skateboards.

The demos that stick put most to me are the ones that really showed off a new console generations capabilities so Metal Gear Solid 2 and Uncharted Drakes Fortune really stick out in my mind

Octopath Traveler 2 is one of the best games I've ever played.

Whatever was the demo disc that had The Legend of Dragoon on it, my brothers and I played on repeat and eventually did get our parents to purchase the full game. Another ps1 game we bought solely due to the demo was Tomba. Better game than you’d think. Was very happy to see Dragoon just recently get trophy support and added to ps+

I just have two demo shootouts: Fuzion Frenzy on Xbox was a demo I players for hours with my brothers and loved every minute of it. Devil May Cry had a demo that came with Code Veronica on PS2 that completely blew my mind as a kid. EDIT: Also a fun tidbit, Smash Bros Brawl had demos for classic games on it to promote the Virtual Console store on Wii and a couple years ago speedrunners were able to beat Ocarina of Time before the trial ran out for it's demo. Really fun video to watch on it. https://youtu.be/jusgAEW4soo

Just got to the end of the podcast, how did none of y'all mention Barney as their first exposure to dinosaurs?

The PlayStation era was great for demos I remember subscribing to “PlayStation Underground” and got a new CD crammed with demos every month.
