Thanks to your direct support on Patreon, we're able to keep growing and adding new shows to our line-up. Welcome to the first episode of Collector Corner! MinnMax Contributor Kelsey Lewin (co-director of the Video Game History Foundation) is hosting this show all about the rarest game collections from around the industry and from the MinnMax community. It will be a limited-series show, lasting for six episodes and they'll be airing every other Thursday on MinnMax's Twitch channel and later posted on YouTube. Every episode from here on out will feature somebody's collection from around the game industry and then we'll have a segment at the end to highlight somebody from the community. In this first episode, Kelsey brings Ben Hanson on a tour of her amazing collection of Wonderswan games and peripherals, Animal Crossing, old Nintendo toys designed by Gunpei Yokoi.

Here's the important part: YOU CAN BE ON THE SHOW! Leave a comment below and let us know if you want your collection be featured on a future episode. You don't have to own as big or as deep of a collection as Kelsey Lewin, anything focused and interesting is ideal. Thanks for your support!

I have a small, but respectful collection of games and systems going back to SNES/Genesis era. Just give me some time to dust, and I'll be happy to show it off! Also have some cool collectibles, like an Amiibo wall, and a Vivi plush that was only given out to the first thousand or so people who signed up to Squaresoft's now defunct Play Online service.

As a Minnesota resident, I’d be honored to show off my collection for the fine folks and fans of MinnMax. I’ve been a collector for over a decade with plenty of collecting stories to share. Currently, I have 2,800+ games, 40+ consoles, and several CRTs in my game rooms. That’s right, I can’t fit everything in my basement, so my collection spans across multiple rooms in my house. I am a handheld fanatic, so many people consider my Vita, DS, and 3DS collections to be my most impressive. Personally, I am most proud of the oddities in my collection, like the Game Boy Pocket Fishing Sonar, CIB Sega Saturn Twin Stick Controllers, Resident Evil Chainsaw controller, new in box Dragon Quest Slime PS2 controller, Virtual Boys, Vectrex, PS2 Test debugging console, among other things. Similar to Kelsey, I have one complete games library: Wii U. I’ll leave it at that for now! Looking forward to seeing what other people have to show and tell about on this awesome new show!

I have an amiibo collection that takes up a whole shelf, mainly Zelda ones but a few other cool ones I liked the design of. I also have a collection of Game Informer magazines from 2010 to 2019 ish.

amazing idea for a show, i dont have a huge collection of rare things but i do own the giant Fallout 4 Vault Boy retail statue and a vast number of other game collectibles and collecters items so if you do an honourable mention i would love to send in a pic of the big beautifull boy.

Jaketrix

My collection is pretty large, games from the Atari 2600 all the way to PlayStation 5. One of my favorite series is Super Mario, but more specifically: Super Mario World. Obviously I have various iterations of the game. Outside of the games: I don't have everything, but I have gotten some official merch produced in recent years (like canvas art, a framed poster and a Hot Wheels car). I have unofficial fan made creations like a couple of perler sets, framed commissioned artwork by Ashley Davis, an unofficial retro strategy guide, and the largest piece: a large vinyl/plastic poster of the Super Mario World map I've also obtained a few retro items. One is a cloth piece featuring artwork from Super Mario World, and then there is memo sheet with art from Super Mario World, Super Mario World playing cards, probably the most unique thing: and a twin cooker (a sandwich press)

Crayter

In terms of sub-collections I've got, portable gaming is probably the most robust I've got. I have i think 24 or so Nintendo handhelds including quite a few special editions, a few PSPs, VITA, a modded Neo Geo Pocket Color, and a few more obscure things like a Yoda tomagachi style thing and a Castlevania Symphony of the Night Tiger handheld. Otherwise I've got a few other interesting one offs, like a Control poster signed by the development team, a french copy of Dishonored 2 also signed by the dev team, and some lesser known consoles like a Fairchild Channel F and the Famicom Disk System (Less known in the states anyway)

Though relatively nascent compared to how long some of my fellow commenters have been collecting, I have close to 100 video game soundtracks on vinyl records in my collection. I would be more than happy to share what I have on hand, upcoming releases I'm excited for, and all the non-record goodies that are often tied to releases. I could even spin some tracks if folks would be interested in that. Maybe Emily Reese would be interested in joining? While I don't have a particular focus, I am historically a Playstation-first console gamer, so a lot of my collection has organically developed in that direction, but my long-standing rule had been that I must have played a game before I bought the record (I have since caved on some selections, sue me, haha).

I would welcome showing off my collection. I have over 8,000 games and 150 systems. I have the most complete Gameboy CIB USA collection with the only complete list of all box variants. I also have 1,051 homebrew games. At least one from almost every system, even the Odyssey 1972. I also have collections of GBA variants with pack ins (big box Sam’s club releases, Yoda figure, Bonus cars, Bonus cards, ect) and DS with pack ins/sets (Lego sets with DS games, DS games with plush toys, DS games with bonus stylus, ect) You commented on my pics on the Gameboy Collectors Facebook group. I also collect weird handheld systems. I have sets for Cougar Boy, Mega Duck, Gamate, Supervision, wonderswan, game wizard, Game King, Microvision, Ngage, Gizmondo, Zodiac. I also collect GB GBC and GBA Europe exclusives. Lots to see and learn about. I'd be happy to share my video game vinyl record collection. I haven't counted them, but I've got somewhere between 30-50 now. I've also got a collection of PS3 and Wii/Wii U games. Not very big, but stuff I wanted to play.

BacklogBusters

I’d love to share my collection if y’all think it’s worth showing. The collection is a little aimless with 619 games and 32 consoles, but it’s me collecting games that I have fond memories of playing at friends houses or seeing in gaming mags because my parents didn’t allow home consoles until I was 11. I recently got all the Megaman battle network and starforce portable games (right before the collection got announced 😬), I’ve almost got all the tony hawk games and am moving through monster hunter now that I got a ps2. I have the weirdly rare game gotcha force that’s supposedly selling for $700 for some reason. I’ve also been collecting Xbox demo disks and Nintendo power magazines lately as well!

I would love to share my collection and how I think about collecting! I had to part with 50+% of what I owned back in 2016 because of money and space issues, but it was a good reset because it made me consider why I was collecting anything physical at all - especially when there are as-good-or-better digital alternatives for almost anything I want to play. What I realized is that playing the games I collect is only a tiny part of it. A lot of what I collect is about celebrating the fandom, which is why i own a lot of “things” around a game that I might not own physically (like I have 3 dark souls figures but no physical versions of any souls games) My wife and I are both into art and design, so I think about how I can emphasize that in the collection in terms of what I get and how I display what I get. (Like, NMH3 isn’t a great game, but the liner art in that switch box is so🔥 that it’s worth keeping on display just for that). I also think about what will be difficult to emulate or get digitally, so I have a lot of WiiU and 3ds games, and with the eshop closures, I even have a “collection” of digital games that might become hard to get. Ultimately, a lot of my collection is books, art, figures, and physical Nintendo games from SNES to Switch. And a base PS4 with PT 😊 Update: my wife said she'd hold the camera for me 👍
