Hi Minnsers, Did your parents ever try to play video games with you as kids? For some reason, the only game my dad had any fancy for was Crash Bandicoot 2. Once every two months or so he would come and play only the first 2 or 3 levels and then that'd be it. He'd never want to save; he'd just repeat those firt couple of levels for literally about 15 years. Occassionaly we'd throw on something else for him but it just would not click.

hey minnmax crew, Have tried over the last few years to get into the gears games as i should love them but could never get into it, I played the first chapter on 5 seperate occasions before last week it clicked i really enjoyed it. I ended up finishing it and jumping into the second game straight away. What is a game you tried to play multiple times before finally enjoying it ?

I FINALLY FOUND ORANGE BUBBLY!!! Kyle brought it up like 700 days ago on a podcast with you guys, saying it was his favorite. I have been on the lookout ever since, but couldn’t find them.. except for scalpers selling them online at like $40 a box. FINALLY, at a Grocery Outlet type store there were 3 boxes of Orange, my wife called me at work, and she cleaned out the store. With trepidation, consternation, and trembling lips, I took my first optimistic sip, and offered this liquid gold to some soda drinking friends during a DnD session, ready to convert them to Bubbly. They F**king hated it, and besmirched me in my own home. I am liking Orange more and more as time passes. Easily top tier now. What are the best Bubbly flavors? Is Grapefruit the worst? Should I risk my marriage and tell my wife I play DnD?

Since none of the gaming podcasts I listen to have talked about this, I want to go into the history of Tencent's MOBA, well, history. Everyone knows that Tencent fully owns Riot Games, who independently developed 2 MOBAs-League PC and Wild Rift (very different games), but do you know the story of the last MOBA that Tencent developed before Unite? 2015: TiMi Studio Group, Tencent's internal game development arm, released Honor of Kings on iOS/Android. Originally the game was called "Honor of Legends", but Riot (fully owned by Tencent at the time) complained that the name was too similar to League of Legends and so it was changed. Riot was originally asked to port League to phones, but they refused citing their belief that the core League expierence could not be replicated on mobile. 2016: HoK is released in the west under the title Arena of Valor, again on iOS and Mobile. Riot and Tencent begin to bicker about how and where Tencent advertises AoV in the west, as Riot sees it as a direct competitor 2016: ByteDance (of TikTok fame) releases their own Mobile MOBA, Mobile Legends Bang Bang. Its a plagiarized clone of League of Legends. So much so that Tencent successfully won a lawsuit because of the plagiarism. Pokemon Go is banned in China. 2017: Nintendo announces Arena of Valor will come to Switch during the Switch launch event. This is part of a partnership deal with Tencent to gain access to the Chinese market for Switch sales 2018: TiMi ports AoV to Switch. It is a full re-write of the game, with better visuals, effects, and with its own standalone balance changes made for the Switch experience. Meanwhile, another Tencent subsidiary publishes a mobile MOBA to compete with LoK in China. It flopped. 2019: Tencent halts Arena of Valor marketing in the West. Tencent announces that TiMi and The Pokemon Company are teaming up to develop a game for the Chinese market, but no details are given. Riot announces Wild Rift. 2020: Nintendo announces Pokemon Unite. Wild Rift's first Betas start. 2021: Wild Rift releases in China and America, Pokemon Unite is released

Hey all-as someone who is Diamond in League, and just hit Veteran in Unite, I gotta say this game is really really good. My hardcore League friends and I did not go into the game expecting the level of strategic depth and variety the game brings, but we've all been pleasently surprised by how much of the core MOBA expierence is packed in there. While there are definitely some pokemon that are better than others, now that people are starting to get mastery of their mains I've been pleasently surprised by the variety of picks I've seen do well, especially relative to the first day or two of the game. If anyone is looking for some advice--One of the most common mistakes I see new players making is staying out on the map too long. Recalling (down on the dpad) takes only 3 seconds and will heal you back to full. Dieing in Unite not only loses you orbs, but also gives the enemy team XP, putting you further behind. Getting kills doesn't win you games, not dieing is what will give you the edge. Unrelated, but Outlaster is an amazing game and I'm so glad Leo talking about it convinced me to seek it out. It is the dream Survivor video game we all have wanted for years, and somehow it showed up in Roblox first.

Which is better? Mario Kart 64 Or Diddy Kong Racing?

What's up MinnMax crew!? My heart was absolutely racing this past week. And no, I'm not referring to "Hot Andy Mac". I'm talking about the opening ceremony for the Olympics in which the playlist for the march of nations was a collection of video game songs. Hearing orchestral versions of Frog and Robo's themes among others being broadcast on an international broadcast on the world stage filled my heart with absolute glee. My question for you guys, what's your favorite or most memorable occasion where the "world of video games" and "non-video games" intersected?

Howdy crew, What makes a proper breakfast? Are pancakes too heavy? Should muffins count? Is it a time thing? As long as it is before 11AM it counts as breakfast? Settle the debate once and for all, thanks!

Hi MinnMax crew Long time listener first time commenter. It's been about a month now since E3 and I was thinking about what makes a good press conference. Many people raved over the Nintendo Direct, but I found it lackluster. WarioWare looked weird and not interesting and it was disappointing to only get a trailer and a vague release date for BotW 2. Even as a Nintendo fan, it didn't grab me. On the other hand, the Microsoft/Bethesda conference was amazing. Tons of new games, an actual release date for their biggest game, and highlighting game pass. I haven't owned an Xbox since the used 360 I picked up once and that conference almost made me want to go and get a Series S with Game Pass just to play all those games! So here's my question - what makes a good conference? Is it new game announcements, details about upcoming releases, or what? Is one big game (a la Breath of the Wild 2) enough to make it great? Should the conference be aiming to get people already fans more hyped or get new people to buy in? Thanks and love the show.

Who will be the last man standing in video game titles? John Madden or Tom Clancy?

Hey MinnMax Is the Xbox brand inherently not special? Not a console wars question, but more a discussion on brand identity. I think we can all agree, Phil Spencer has done an amazing job righting the Xbox ship and presenting a lot of value to gamers. That being said, I can’t help but notice their franchises being a little tired and their new efforts lacking star power. Franchise like Halo, Forza and Gears seem long in the tooth. A new entry from Psychonauts doesn’t draw the anticipation of Ratchet or a Nintendo platformer. Even an acquisition like Bethesda, was accomplished as Fallout 76 was a failure and Arkane struggled to find success. So I wonder, is the Xbox brand not special, unlucky, mismanaged? It’s been a while since they had a game as exiting as the Titanfall launch. Love the show
