We're creating the best, most thorough discussion about Mass Effect 1 on the internet and we need your help! The panelists are Ben Hanson, voice actor Sarah Elmaleh, former Game Informer Joe Juba, and Leo Vader!

You can unlock the podcast version of the first discussion by supporting MinnMax at the $5 tier, or you can watch the YouTube version here - https://youtu.be/hDpNBd9mfO0

For this week's discussion, we're covering the middle of Mass Effect 1. We're talking Artemis Tau, Feros, Noveria, and the side-quests. Basically everything before Virmire. Please do not spoil anything beyond that point.

Submit a comment below and please get specific. Don't write a long review, please keep your one comment to around the length of a tweet. We want to get to as many comments as possible. Let's get specific, submit a comment about your favorite character moment, hallway, combat ability. The more specific you are, the higher the odds of us reading your comment during the discussion. We'll finish collecting comments on Tuesday morning.

For your own reference, here's the schedule for the rest of The Deepest Dive...

June 7th - Virmire/Finale

You can watch us record The Deepest Dive live on Tuesday evening at 5pm Central if you're at the $10 Backstage Pass tier on Patreon. The link will be in the Backstage Pass tier on the Discord. Thanks for your support.

Did anyone else think it was weird that you have the option to agree to not be let out of that containment zone in Noveria when you go to make the cure if you come back with an anomaly? I know it would never actually happen, but it’s odd that the “good” dialogue choice in that scenario could have led to Shephard condemning himself and his team to just rot away in that cell.

I can't stand Noveria and Feros BOTH ending with a big, nasty alien using telekinesis to speak to Shepard through an Asari commando that worked for Matriarch Benezia. There's "technically a reason for this" explained later, but c'mon Bioware: how many more big psychic bugs are out there waiting to use me like a megaphone? And why can I save the Rachni but not the Thorian?

Just writing in to say Ben and the other cohorts on this Deepest Dive should do a little show-and-tell of their custom Shepards! The agency they give you with character customization and choice is such a unique, special thing with this series, we want to see what you came up with!

This is my first time playing Mass Effect. The galaxy map is super cool. I really enjoyed reading about each planet and trying to imagine what they are like. One that stood out to me described the planet being made of mostly water and being similar to the hanar homeworld. I thought that was really cool and made a lot of sense. Reading about the planets reminded me a lot of the astronomy class I took during college and I thought, "Wow, it would be so awesome if they had our own solar system and planets!" I told my boyfriend and he said, "Just wait and see."

I just want you to know that because of the Deepest Dive I can't look at Garrus anymore without thinking of the phrase "Cricket Dick"

Last time you guys talked about cool spinoff Mass Effect games, and after reading some of the codex entries on the Salarian Special Task Group, they would make a cool Splinter Cell style stealth game. They discuss carrying out missions on "shoestring resources" so having that element of a trying to get by with little and infiltrating rogue operations could make for an interesting game!

I had ordered the squad not to hurt the brainwashed colonists on Feros, but Ashley shot a man to death as he lay helpless on the ground anyway. I think one of my stray bullets hit him while he was swirling with some enemies in a singularity, and apparently that told the squadmates he was a target. So Ashley finished him off before he could get back up - as I looked on in horror.

On Noveria, I went directly to the Hot Labs after talking with Captain Ventralis. Turns out, if you go to the Hot Labs first, Ventralis becomes hostile and you don't have the option to talk with the survivors in the Mess Hall. While I feel like I missed out, I also think this kind of branching gameplay rewards multiple playthroughs.

Are you actually making choices or are you just making choices based on your paragon / renegade points? I think that is the biggest flaw of the game. I'm not even looking at the options.

One of my favorite ways to play Mass Effect 1 is to use as many biotic powers as possible. When they're all fully leveled and you can fire off Lift, Throw, Singularity, and Warp back to back, together with Liara's versions of those abilities, enemies just fly all over the place. The tech abilities pale in comparison. Why sabotage when you can Lift?!

The combat barks in this game are just horrific. "Enemies everywhere" "I will destroy you" "You must die" "Go go go" nonstop in every encounter.

On Noveria I helped Parasini (the undercover agent) to arrest Anoleis. She apparently spent years undercover, but after she puts Anoleis in handcuffs, she throws everything away by not properly reading his miranda rights! Instead opting for the sick burn of "You have the right to remain silent, and right now I wish you would use it."
