With The Celebration Of Final Fantasy VII, we're counting down the days until the release of the Final Fantasy VII Remake by creating content dedicated to Ben Hanson's favorite game of all time. If you don't remember the 2006 film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, it's the canonical sequel to the game produced by Square-Enix and directed by Tetsuya Nomura. It wasn't very well-received when it came out, but some fans had a great time with it. On this commentary track, Hanson is joined by his best friend Ronnie that introduced him to Final Fantasy VII in 6th grade and the chef from MinnSnax Grant.

Also, just a heads up, the film and commentary track contain spoilers for the original game.

Advent Children Complete is available to rent on YouTube and other places, or you can watch the original version (so the sync will eventually be off) for free on Crackle right here! https://www.crackle.com/watch/1024

That was such a hilarious Trainwreck. Oh we're definitely gonna need more Ronnie and Grant, you 3 are absolutely fantastic together. Is there a chance they might be in for the Deepest Dive of the Remake?

Oh no... we were shooting for the opposite of a train wreck. Good question! Not sure yet! That would be fun, but I know the cohorts are interested as well. So we’ll see how it all shakes out.

A great time listening to y’alls commentary while watching this cinematic classic and truly the panicle and master class of film. I hope y’all do more commentaries in the future. Seriously, entertaining as hell and made day 4 of quarantine fly by. Fun time and can’t wait for more of the Celebration of Final Fantasy VII. 🐸👍

Thanks for the feedback! Did you actually queue up the movie to play at the same time as us?

This was a blast. I was watching the original cut and had to pause to sync back up occasionally but good times!

This was a lot of fun. Thanks for doing it. I wish you had enjoyed it more but to each their own! I feel the movie does some things very well but just like with the Spirits Within, seems hesitant to unleash a lot of the humor, magic, and charm of the games. It's a shame but SE seems so hung up on what they feel is "Cool" they miss what fans really love about the games. I mean there's not even a chocobo in the movie! The toy on the counter in that one scene doesn't count. lol. I feel like most have mentioned already, the main issue comes down to how dour everyone is and the color saturation in the film doesn't help matters. It's all so lifeless and sterile which I get is kinda the point but it just doesn't work overall and feels lifeless. As cliche as it is, I do think a buddy character attached with Cloud throughout the movie like Yuffie or Cait would have done wonders to force him to lighten up. The script really needed a rewrite to show more of a progression of time/character development for Cloud and the rest of the gang. The pieces are there but it just doesn't quite work. Still I feel if you've played through the game and have a good understanding of the characters, world, and lore, the movie is acceptable and doesn't tarnish the legacy of the game. If you're a newcomer to the series and watching this for the first time...God help you. lol. Anywho, I enjoyed your commentary and love everything you guys do. I don't comment often on here but we have communicated many times through GI when you were there and through youtube. I hope you, Ben, and the the rest at Minnmax and GI stay safe during these trying times. Thanks for helping to keep positive vibes. The more things you guys post, the more you balance the scale of negativity coming out of the media left and right. I know it might seem inconsequential in the grand scheme of things but I really do believe you make a lot of people's lives better and in times like these what you do is really important. Anywho, thanks again and thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I know this is late I’m not sure if anyone will see it but I noticed no one had responded to Bens last question about the meaning of the flowers on the cliff and Zack’s sword after the credits. The ‘hero’s journey beginning’ I interpreted as being about Cloud, recounting his own journey of ff7? Where those flowers are growing are where Zack dies in Crisis Core, handing the buster sword to Cloud saying “You’re my living legacy” beginning Clouds journey of the 1997 game. I took him moving the buster sword to the church a gesture of reuniting Zach and Aerith after death. I am one of those kids who grew up with Advent and am now a huge 7 fan. Loved the commentary and all y’all’s work.
