On this week's episode of The MinnMax Show podcast, we'll have myself (Ben Hanson), Jeff Marchiafava, Kyle Hilliard, and Suriel Vazquez talking about all sorts of nonsense... and then the community comes in and makes the show better. Leave a comment below with a piece of feedback, question, or anything else you like and there's a good chance we'll read it on the show!

What’s the longest you’ve gone without playing a video game? Why?

In the attempt to work on getting better, I've started to write down thoughts and feelings and just general notes. For those of you who are avid note takers: 1. What do you write down and when? 2. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to take more notes for either remembering things or just as an outlet?

If I challenged MinnMax to cover one game coming to Vita this year, do you think you could do it?

Hey Computer-Loving Cohorts and Benn (two Ns!). What is a game you can complete with your eyes closed? I’m always returning to the LucasArts point-and-click games like Day of the Tentacle, the Dig, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. There isn’t any challenge at this point because I’ve played them SO MUCH, but I still enjoy them. Is there a game that you don’t find challenging anymore that you still enjoy?

Do you have certain kinds of games that you play at certain times of day? I for example will play turn-based strategy games like Into the Breach or Slay the Spire while I eat breakfast in the morning. Brian, Oro Valley

Can we get a business update on minnmax? Money level, prospecting new studio, mini doc plans? I know its easier said than done, but 1 alternate guest host each week would be fun, maybe just for the community feedback section

Hello Cohorts! Each year, I try to come up with a list of my “games of the not-this-year”—or the best games that I experienced in a given year that were released in past years. For example, my “game of not-2019” was Cuphead. It was originally released for PC and Xbox in 2017 (both of which I own and could have played before its 2018 and 2019 re-releases for Mac and Switch) but I didn’t give it a try until just a couple months ago. What are some of your personal “games of not-2019?”

Hey Minnmax, do you all feel "settled in" now that it's been a while since the Patreon launched or does it all still new? From a listener perspective, I think that the show felt comfortable right off the bat seeing as you're all veterans of the podcast scene by now. Side question - if you guys could do an episode of Minnmax in a guest location (anywhere in the world) where would it be? Thanks - Pearse (pronounced Pierce) from Boston,MA

Hey Ben and the CLC! After you mentioned the portion of the Patreon that don’t engage (in regards to the length of the podcast), I decided to weigh in. Firstly, the longer the better. Although I agree with you that interviews may be better off in their own podcast, I really love the long-form nature of the podcast, and I don’t think it would be possible for you to overstay your welcome. Secondly, absolutely clothes stink when you leave them in the cupboard for too long - which is very annoying when you crack out a shirt you haven’t worn in a while only to realise it smells.. mildewy.

After IGN gave Celeste a 10/10, the same score awarded to BOTW, it started to make me think - is there anything to be said about the measurable efforts (number of staff, total man hours), finance, impact on the industry and other tangibles outside of the enjoyment one experiences playing a game that should dictate the score of a game. It’s consistently reiterated that reviews are subjective, and only the opinion of the reviewer, but when a game that is in so many ways... “less” than another, do they really deserve the same score? Can you imagine if someone compared Ferrari’s efforts in making the LaFerrari to an incredibly delightful and enjoyable go cart made in the backyard?. They got the same fun out of both cars when test driving them, and disregarding the mountains of research, innovation, money, industry impact, man-hours, capability (and on and on and on) that one (the LaFerrari) took, and they concluded both were worthy of the same score? Hopefully that’s not too apples and oranges of a comparison, but I think the point might still stand, that there might be some relevance to the size and scope of a game, what it achieved and what it took to achieve in its score - a 2d platformer (all be it a very good one) vs a huge, game changing, open world, side-quest containing narrative driven, graphically and artistically beautiful game. (Sorry for the long question).

Hey guys, I've recently played a game called Felix the Reaper. Unfortunately, there is a bug in the game that makes one of the trophies unobtainable. People have been bugging the developers (Kong Orange) on Twitter about it but they claim they are not in control of the patching pipeline and ask people to talk to the publisher (Daedalic) (see source: https://www.trueachievements.com/forum/viewthread.aspx?tid=1140730) Do you have any idea what this could be about? Why would a publisher block a patch? I'm aware you probably have no inside knowledge about this specific case but have you heard of anything similar? Cheers, Paweł

Hi Ben & the MinnMaxers! I love the “get a load of this” segment. In the previous PodCast, you mentioned the Easter Egg on the Dragon Ball Kokarot game “get a load of that”. So I realized how cool that was and I was wondering how it could be used on the PodCast. So how about if each month the MinnMax community votes for the best one and we call it “Get a load of that”. Great show guys, I also feel now I am an ex Game Informer. I feel we all went through this together! Thank you for sharing my commute to work every day! Max, from Orlando, FL.
