Been reading a lot on these lately, and wondered if I should release works as such.  Create limited numbers of copies of either original artwork, comic issues as limited run NFTs, or something like the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Not entirely sure if a non-image file would be readily accessible from the NFT via IPFS.

I guess they can be bought and sold fairly easily.

For those who are unaware of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, holding their NFT is a prerequisite for something tangible (like buying their merchandise), though in my case it would still be digital.

For example, I could create a whole slough of various characters and only those who hold the token for that character gets to decide how that character is used.  Or allow those who have the NFTs the option to purchase a T-shirt with the character on it or something.

I'm definitely considering doing novel like this, though still keeping the Patreon open, of course.  It's an excellent way to share but also have a nice backup of completed items for myself.

As for which blockchain, I'm leaning towards the Ravencoin blockchain, even if Ethereum is the centre of that universe at the moment.  But Solana (despite the DDoS attack recently) is picking up (unsure on costs there), and I believe it can also be done on the Cardano blockchain, even before their smart contract rollout a few days ago.

What are people's thoughts on going this route?

I'll be blunt: I would immediately withdraw my support if you go the NFT route. That whole business is a scam and environmentally damaging besides.

I´ll be out as well.-

People said that about the web in 2000, too, including the environmentally damaging part. I think it's the future of gaming though.

In addition to the harm to the environment caused by the power needed to generate crypto in general, this is purely a speculator's market, and one that's already pretty well saturated. For an analogy, think of the comic book speculation wave of the 90's, when companies started cranking out worthless "first issues" and "special collectors' editions." A lot of companies went under when boom turned to bust. Hell, Marvel almost didn't make it into the 21st Century.

it does (sadly) seem to be one of the better ways for an artist to earn a living.
