Retro Flashback: Straight!? v0.01 Original Demo (Patreon)
Content
Hey all,
So for the Patrons, we're 14 versions into this game. When I started this project like 1.5 years ago, I never expected the evolution you see today. Over time, I've slowly replaced each version with an improved update to progress the story, deleting the older versions as I went.
Well...awhile back, I started to really kick myself for deleting the original copy of the game. After spending this much time with these characters, I sorta felt like I threw away their fucking baby pictures or something. I wanted a copy of my roots but I couldn't find it for the life of me!
When we look at the most recent versions, it's insane to see how much this game has actually grown over time. For those of you that have only recently discovered the game, most of you never saw how bad the game really was in the beginning as a demo.
Well, that's about to change because recently my quest ended.
Guys, I found the original version after searching for like a year.
The v0.01.
And it's completely embarrassing but I'm going to share it anyway!
Some of the most exciting posts are when followers become inspired by the game and want to make their own. I was talking with a follower last night and he mentioned something that I've mentioned before: that if others become inspired by these works or are able to see the potential profit, the community grows and we all benefit. However, it's incredibly intimidating to learn new programs, writing, coding, artwork, etc. While I'm slowly expanding the team, the first year and a half was just me writing, rendering, and coding a game from scratch and it was terrifying.
While Straight!? has a long ways to go, it has 14 updates under it's belt and should never be compared to a new project. There's an evolution to this process and it really has to start somewhere. For those ultra fans, budding developers, or complete masochists that never saw the original, I wanted to show the potential that a shitty v0.01 could have and maybe motivate a few people out there to give their own projects a shot.
So here it is, the original version of Straight!? that's completely unedited, with no parental warning on it, and enormous font as it originally appeared in October 2017, featuring super-Caucasian Zack with his bright blue eyes!
Hopefully, seeing me at my absolute worst will help validate some of your project ideas.
Love you guys and thanks for all the memories,
-Aaryn
