Update #51 - Summer Wants to Battle! (Patreon)

Surf is Super Effective!

It's finally time for our next update and preview of things to come, since I've finally sort-of settled on a bunch of Moemon sets to finish instead of just randomly picking them out of a hat based on sudden urge. So picture this: It's summer, it's hot, everything is sweaty and it overall sucks. So what do you do? You go to the beach, jump in the pool, take a cold shower at least!

I'm stuck in Southern California and it's a been a brutal week with the upcoming week being just as bad. Suffice to say, it has cut down on some of my development time. I spend at least 2 hours a day swimming when I could totally be working on Koikatsu releases. But come on, it's like 100 degrees here!

That's about 38 Celsius for you non-Americans (which I know there's plenty of here).

Anyways, all this swimming has inspired me. Girls. Bikinis. Girls in Bikinis. Girls in Bikinis getting wet. See where I'm going with this?

Yes, it means a ton of Water-type Moemon.

We've already sort of kicked it off with Dewpider/Araquanid, but I actually want to focus on the Starter families of every generation this time, and sort of update/finalize them for those that already have been completed.

Let's take a look at every generation and their sprites.

Going back to the very beginning, Squirtle not only has an entirely new sprite, but the rest have also received a decent polish. They certainly can use an updating. I'm STILL MAD no one has added "tail curl" things in all these years but whatever I'll figure something out.

Might even do Mega Blastoise although I believe this is a fairly old sprite and may get replaced, so I might hold off on that since I want the sets to be "final" in a way.

Next up we have the oldest set in the Starter sets, the Gen 2 Totodile famil- Wait a second, those are the old sprites! Give me a second..

I started working on these about a month ago, actually. Then I got side-tracked. The hair is particularly difficult, but I think I have a decent idea of getting it SOMEWHAT close. KK doesn't lend itself well to things like.. curls, body, volume, and.. shaved hair. But I absolutely know a few tricks for those things, it's just going to take some work. I wish we could do simple things like FK control in the Creator though. Like, look at Croconaw's tail. Why can't we do that. Why.

Also already released, but due for some reworks. Since it's release we've gotten a lot more mods, and the sprites themselves have actually been polished up. Now I can actually tell that Mudkip is wearing a frilly skirt swimsuit and, while not shown here, the backsprites do a much better job showing the head angles and I can definitely improve them a bit. Low priority though.

Taking a look at Gen 4, my favorite set out of the lot, these actually received slightly polished sprites after they were released (as is usual) but otherwise not much needs to be improved. That said, a Shiny set wouldn't hurt, would it?

This set may actually require a sizeable update to fix some issues. Currently Samurott's helmout is completely broken on my end, though I need to see if that applies to everyone or if I'm just missing some mods, but I also realize I designed them wrong. Regardless, there's some work that can be done to improve them and I intend on doing just that!

If you've been around for awhile you'll know that's all the starters we've done so far. Now for the brand new ones, starting, of course, with Gen 6.

Greninja's a real popular fan favorite and I absolutely love the shinobi vibe she rocks (both as the Pokemon and Moemon version). Expect some quality to be poured into her. BUT THAT FUCKING TONGUEEEE UGH WHERE'S MY FK CONTROLLLLL

This Ash-Greninja sprite exists by the way but I'm not entirely sure if it's worth making an entirely new 'mon over. Maybe just an alternative outfit slot? This is a weird one because it's not actually a Regional form or something. It's just.. Ash's Greninja lmao. Like what do I even do with this

Onto Gen 7, Primarina's line has been finished for quite some time now (seriously, credit to the extremely talented Fuwu for these), but I never had a chance to get around to them. Well, it's time.

There's actually an alternate set of them with mermaid tails instead of legs but I can't find it right now. Might stick to legs, though lol.

What wraps this all up and ties everything together is the inclusion of the (current) final Gen 8 Water Starter set, Sobble, Drizzile, and Inteleon. That will soon change with Gen 9 on the horizon, but let's not worry about them for now.

Although these will be the main "featured" releases over this next month or two, there are a few that will be released in-between. For example, something I totally forgot to do at the time; Mega Sharpedo is due.

Along that, there's a handful of other one-off and two-set Water Moemon that I plan to do as well, but as I'm not entirely sure if I can get them to work in time, let's not make any promises (besides I'm too lazy to grab the sprites right now).

Oh, there's also a couple of Legendaries and Ultra Beasts along the way.
