Moemon Project Split.. or Shift? (Patreon)

Hey everyone!

I'm finishing up the newest releases, but I wanted to quickly talk about what's going on with the Moemon Project (the Romhack games, not this KK project that I'm working on).

If you don't care about the internal politics or development of the romhacks, you don't really need to read this. However, there may be some potential implications that stem from the situation that could effect my work here, but most likely not.

If you're on the Moemon Development Discord server, you may have noticed today that there's an entirely new server up and a post briefly explaining what is happening - or rather, not really explaining what is happening at all, actually.

But to quickly clear up some confusion.. Effectively, that server is dead. The new server is here:

This new server is the Moemon Project server.

From the explanation given today from Moetal:

Sorry for the mass pings but there has been a lot of discontent in the server lately and I would like to loop everyone in the matter in regard to the future of this server and the project. Many individuals are feeling unhappy with my leadership and I’ve tried to compromise by stepping down in order to preserve the server and project – however this new group is highly unstable and I’ve come to the decision that stepping down is not a possible option at the moment. I’ve lead this project since 2012 and I assure you Moemon Development Project will continue to exist for years to come although progress on this server might be greatly reduced in the upcoming days. Everyone is welcome to join the other Moemon Project though it will not be under my leadership or control.

I’ve determined @aimi has been intentionally instigating discontent, and harassing and verbally abusing individuals. For the health and future of the server she will no longer be welcomed here. Those who do not agree with this decision can join her at the other Moemon Project server.

This is a complicated situation but anyone who has joined the server knows that the environment can be quite hostile, since lots of newcomers arrive from time to time and ask questions that are easily found within the documentation, and so members of the community often react harshly. Everyone at some point has seen or experienced this themselves. Now, that's not NECESSARILY what the main problem is - in fact, that's the problem, we don't really know what the problem is.

What we do know is this:

• Effectively, most, if not all, spriters/modders are moving to the Moemon Project server.
• The romhacks will continue development, which means my fan-work here continues.
• The division is over a few individuals, not named.
• Spritesheets should be shared between both servers, I think?
• Everything is a clusterfuck of shit-flinging and name calling
• Once again we actually don't know anything

And that's basically everything we know.

Once again, I'd like to reiterate that I personally have no involvement with the development of the projects, I'm as much a fan of the romhack as anyone else, but wanted to try something creative with the Moemon sprites that we've all come to know and love.

So, bottom line is, effectively, my fun little project here won't be ending anytime soon, nor should the Moemon development.

The only problem here is the split in the community and honestly, if things get worse, some spriters may even just jump ship, which would slow down development a ton. There actually has been a HUGE slowdown over the past month of almost no content coming out. It was worrying, since it felt like the project was coming to an end. I assumed it was just due to the holiday seasons, but now with the revelation of this new server and the details coming out from there, it seems all Sprite progress updates have been moved over there instead.

That's all the really needs to be said, I suppose. If you'd like to join the servers above, go ahead, though I would refrain from asking.. stupid questions lol.
