Honestly if given my way Kairi would have been written more like a tomboy, as that's the impression I always got from her KH1 design; the short hair, the shorts built into her skirt, what looked like straps to a sports bra coming up from under her top, sneakers, hanging out with two dudes instead of the other girl on the island, etc. I would have had her keep a similar aesthetic in future games so when Riku gives her her keyblade she's just like "No, that one's ugly, I want the cool batwing one," then Riku would just be all like "No, this one's mine," then she's just like "Gimme the damn batwing!" then Riku rolls his eyes and for at least that one scene they would have traded keyblades. Not permanently of course, the keyblades would force them to swap back and then when they go back to Destiny Islands she equips the keychain for a better-looking keyblade and then that's what she would have in Dream Drop Distance, because if given my own way she also would have been playable in that game with the implication that she's been training in the not-hyperbolic-time-chamber between games and is as ready for her Mark of Mastery exam as Sora and Riku are so that way she won't have to spend so much time training with Lea in KH3 so maybe she could have time to do something useful before Xemnas grabs her by the wrist and that's all it takes to incapacitate her and she barely even struggles, like come on, what was all that training for!?

That shit's the reason I prefer to just age up the younger design and imagine an AU where she kept the same fashion sense as she aged instead of using the canon older designs, cuz this one's better, not because it's the younger design, but because it's just better. Kairi's pretty infamous for having never been given much personality in any of the games, she's always been kinda milquetoast, but at least the first design implies a distinct personality, the canon older designs don't have the same quality, I prefer to pretend that those are just Kairi's sisters using her name for some reason like some kind of Stan Pines malarkey
