Penny is making creative use of a piece of advice she got from her art teacher, who told her that one of the best ways to get an exaggerated cartoony facial expression is to make the face yourself, but rather than look at it in a mirror like one would think, draw the face without looking at it, drawing the way it feels rather than the way it looks. She tried to apply that to drawing an inflated human figure by inflating herself and then drawing how that feels. It didn't work.
