Rose Quartz Study (Term 51) (Patreon)
Content
This study has been FINISHED and collecting dust in my files since the start of the month for some unknown reason but at least I've uploaded it for you now! As always, the full resolution file will be made available with Term 51 rewards (when they are sent to your patreon mailbox early next month) along with a recording of the process!
I found Rose Quartz to be a CHALLENGING crystal to paint.
It's rare that I paint anything in such a soft, almost pastel palette. None of the values of this particular crystal are too dark value wise, so I found it was difficult to define certain features. Like Amethyst the crystal is slightly transparent and light passes visibly through it's surface. Polished and raw stones are equally as beautiful but I might spend some more time studying the raw variety as I find their surfaces particularly challenging to capture correctly. Like most crystals, smooth surfaces are often highly reflective and defining these planes on the crystal face help give your paintings a more realistic, 3D shape.
I'll be working on a sketch for our crystal gal concept very soon!
