Now this little mineral is tricky!

Despite its black color, it has an incredibly reflective surface. It's bound to pick up colorful lights and reflections and, while it's generally a very smooth substance, the edges are rather sharp. This one in particular appears to have lots of marbling, which was really just lots of small imperfections and cracks on the surface of the mineral itself. 

Something interesting to note when painting obsidian is that the value range is much wider. There are the blackest of blacks, while also hosting many bright highlights due to its reflective nature.

I would love to study this mineral in lots of natural lighting set ups to see how different colors play off of its surface!
