Now It's December... (Patreon)

...and 2023 draws to a close, we find ourselves in an interesting juncture…

Originally, I’d written this to be a big “Woo, 8 years!” piece and lay out my plans going forward. However…

First and foremost, it turns out that the merry-making marauders’ place is still intermittently active. And you know what?  I get it.  Nobody likes paywalls. 

Nowadays, you’re getting far less bang for your buck everywhere; streaming services, groceries, video games… even your average banking institution seems to discourage saving your money with comically terrible interest rates.  Therefore, what right do I have to act as if I’ve a treasured vault of my own, akin to some mega-corporation?  I’m not anyone special.

So you know what I’m going to do?

Unlock the vault and repost a lot of the older content.  There’s no value in pilfering what’s already out there in public, right?  I’ve seen other artists do this, most notably, a certain brawn buff who every December, posts a zip folder on formerly-known-as-Twitter.  Said folder contains all the previously exclusive content he did that year.  So I should do something akin to that.  I’m not saying “look out for a zip folder”, I have to figure stuff out first since the last time I did something similar to this was back in August 2021, I think?

Regardless, I think you Patrons deserve a heads-up; you paid for the production of this art after all.

Some will be understandably annoyed by this, but realistically speaking, I think nowadays, most people are over the whole ‘gated exclusivity’ phenomenon. As that one guy in Jurassic Park said:

And as is internet discourse, it never forgets – I’ll be stuck on the convivial cutpurse place and during those times when it’s actually active, someone will likely re-upload stuff. I can live with that. But that doesn’t mean I’ll make it as easy for figurative Xerox (photocopier).  You’ll see what I mean going forward… especially as the recent removal of categorising things by months on here mean I’ll have to re-organise things a fair bit.

I’ll detail properly what I’ll do next year.

Of course, just as I decided upon this course of action, another unexpected development occurred earlier in the week.  To put it euphemistically, certain content creators suddenly got ousted off here. And they all catered to a very particular niche.

I can’t necessarily say I’m that surprised given…

This ongoing issue is something I’ve highlighted often in the past, so I’ll spare you the usual Damocles recital. But it’s something I’ll have to be extremely wary of and if push comes to shove…

I won’t blame anyone for bailing out on principle.
