Poking Around Pt 124 (Patreon)

I guess you could say it’s a mark of how normalised displays of supernatural powers are in this universe given no one comments on what just happened.  At the time of posting this, I don’t know whether this will be the final page for the month or what; been feeling a bit guilty for working exclusively on this comic the past few days whilst other projects are sitting there in the lay-by.  Whoops.  We’ll see what happens.

• Vaporevian: A portmanteau of this water creature and the French mineral water company.
• Initial Doubts: The page title’s namesake comes from the Japanese street-racing manga series.  Originally, the title was going to be a reference to Racing Lagoon, an obscure street-racing-centric JRPG (recently fan-translated into English) but I couldn’t think of a pun that worked.  Hana Highway (the stretch of road we’ve been on the past few pages) is loosely based on the real life Hakone Turnpike, a popular hotspot for motoring enthusiasts due to its challenging driving conditions of hairpin turns, steep incline, pockets of valley fog and low-flying clouds.  Hakone is one of the locations in Racing Lagoon but features in Initial D also, illustrated in this handy English-language video showcasing the real life location used in the animated series.
