Poking Around Pt 79 (Patreon)

Thank you so much for waiting for me. Here is the next part, a month and three days (darn, midnight rolled round just as I posted this!) since the last one so that’s got to be alright.  There’s quite a bit more dialogue on this page to advance things a little. Maybe I got too influenced by The Smurfs (the Hanna-Babberra iteration), I always liked it when they had those quick exchanges before everyone started arguing/panicking. I may be alone in remembering that… 

Anyway, TL notes below. I’ll do my best to get the rest of my tiers updated before the month is out. Please look forward to it! 

TL notes:

•  くよくよ :  reads as kuyokuyo, Japanese gijougo 擬情語 (onomatoepeaic words to describe feelings/moods) for worrying over a past instance.  In this case, Tori's thinking back to the previous day depicted all the way back in Part 15...
• “Sorry, sorry…”/”Joey”: A reference to Stand Cries in JoJo Bizarre’s Adventure, though in this page’s original draft was a reference to an oft-said phrase in Crayon Shin Chan. 
• “ムキムキ/デブデブ”: literally muscle-muscle/fatty-fatty.   Funnily enough, I couldn't get the tanukis chanting of fast food names out of my head (reference to Pom Poko)
• “Bit of a Doublade that, isn’t it?”: a twist on the idiom “double-edged sword” featuring this creature. 
• “Yan Darë”: A corruption on Yamper. The surname is pronounced “Da-RARE”
• “So no beef wi’ me”: a bit confusing, but in this instance it means “you're not trying to start a fight/argument with me, right?”. The origins of the phrase are disputed; some say it’s vernacular from hip/hop rap battles of the late 1980s/early 1990s; others say it’s from cattle farmers.  Anyway, Tori and Horace are doing the Epic Handshake, a meme based on the 1987 film Predator. In the original draft, this was originally another reference to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. 
• “ Zoinks/ It’s An Anime Thing”: Why the Scooby-Doo-esque reaction? Yan Darë sounds fairly close to yandere. A yandere is usually a very possessive character whose devotion to their self-professed “beloved” devolves to the “If I can’t have you, no one can!” schtick with the object of their affection trying to escape being captured/annihilated. The word itself is a portmanteau of yanderu (病んでる) and deredere (でれでれ), meaning emotional/mental illness and showing affection respectively.
• “Kieron”: He’s a Terrakion. 
• “Curry kamoo”: A reference to the fact you can cook curry recipes in these new games, and one of my favourite Simpsons lines me and my sister quoted in the past.
