In this video I’m looking at the latest developments in this long dead format. You may have seen me mention in a Patreon update how I’d met up with Ralf from the DCC museum and he’d dropped some things off - this is the video where I show those things.

This video was moved up the ‘production schedule’ queue after I discovered that one of the items I’d be showing is being unveiled to the public today.

It’s been a bit of a rush to get it all done in time while it’s still relevant (as relevant as a dead format gets), but I think I just about made it. Unfortunately though, due to the tight deadline this video is only going to be exclusive on Patreon until lunchtime Saturday when it goes live to everyone.

I should have another video to show you soon here on Patreon though, perhaps mid week. Since I’ve still got the Sony FH7 HiFi video to make public, the next Patreon upload will likely remain exclusive here for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, hope you’re doing well - take care and as always, thanks for being here.

UPDATE:

I’ve re-uploaded to fix a factual error regarding the location of the ITTS data within the tape tracks on a DCC.

The new version is the one embedded and linked to above.

I'm sure you've mentioned this in the past but I just realized the museum is in Cathedral City! That absolutely blew me away because I figured this would have been some sort of project out of Berlin! Cathedral City is kind of a end-of-the-world variety of exurbia! I suppose it's a good place for storage... arid and dry. And although I don't think it matters much with digitally recorded music, river basins are really the best places to record, tectonically speaking.

Interesting. DCC is the one audio product I've never had to work on or even used. I jumped from Tapes to MD.

We moved from Redondo Beach (Los Angeles) to Cathedral City 3 years ago. Originally we are from the Netherlands, the country DCC has its origin.

Curiouser and curiouser! I was BORN in Redondo Beach! LOL! Wow, you all went from a land below sea level... to a beach town... to the desert! Soon there will be no moisture! hah! Plus my middle name is "DeWitt"... some sort of kismet!

I'll take this opportunity to say that I really admire the work you are doing. It seems anyone involved with this organization should feel a sense of accomplishment in keeping part of technological history alive. Edit: do you have any need for a floater that can run errands for you, deliver materials, personal assistant duties, or anything you need done? I'm willing to relocate. 60% joking, 40% serious.
