I finally finished the video I’ve been working on for weeks. Here it is. It’s about my history with an ‘unsuccessful’ format and how its failings ultimately ended up changing my life.

As usual Patrons have the opportunity to watch the video early and without any adverts.

I aim to shoot a short Patreon exclusive update video soon as there’s a couple of things I want to update you on, but in the meantime I hope everyone is doing well, take care of yourself and we’ll no doubt chat again very soon. Have a good one (or two).

In this video I take a look at Sony's MicroMV, the smallest videocassette tape format ever made. I'll demonstrate the DCR-IP1 camera and show how I went about editing footage from this defunct format. I also talk about my history with MicroMV and explain how a serendipitous trip to the supermarket ultimately resulted in a big lifestyle change. 00:00 Intro 01:29 What was the idea? 05:45 How I ended up with MicroMV 10:55 Hands on demo 16:10 My old MicroMV vids 18:58 Editing issues 25:27 Editing solutions 28:48 Examining a cassette 30:53 What happened next 34:09 Patreon credits ------------- Merchandise ----------------- New Techmoan Merchandise is now available. https://etsy.me/3zzjweo --------------- SUBSCRIBE ------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 ------------- SUPPORT --------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ---------- Outro Music ----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------ Outro Sound Effect ------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM ------ AFFILIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE ------- All links are Affiliated where possible. A) Patrons https://www.patreon.com/techmoan usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version. If you want to see the videos early and before any adverts are added, you can sign up to Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/techmoan

One of my favorite things about your videos is that you were into the same obscure razor edge tech I was during the Oughts. I have the Sony CD camera. It was critical in documenting things at a time where digital cameras were barely up to par and held only 12 pictures or so.

I just wish interesting new tech still came out with the same frequency it did back then - it was an amazing time.

Only just found this, need to check for new videos more often! I dug out my old Sony IP220e (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/camcorders-and-video-cameras-tape-camcorders/dcr-ip220e) a fews ago along with all my old MicroMV tapes, i bought it here in the UK in 2002. I loved the 220e as it did superb still shots as well, although onto sony's long dead proprietary memory stick format! I'll have a look at how you got the data off, I still have a vm running windows xp just to run Pinnacle Studrio with MicroMV support!
