A lot of quality equipment comes from quality manufacturing and that costs money. Chinese have been very good at getting production contracts without really delivering, however once the company is invested, the contract giver will have to take on costs to improve quality or face the customer. There is of course some good Chinese quality control, but those manufacturers are not cheap. I work in the automotive industry and I have never got any models of any of the vehicles I worked on, which I regret to a point. I don't do it for many reasons but the contradiction became apparent as I had a child and he wanted a model of our car to play with. I think there is a line between nostalgia, represented by objects and their link to memories and valuable antiques, in whichever form vale is measure, rarity, value, functionality... I still have my first Sony mp3, a nw HD 5, but none of the older stuff, a boom box I inherited and gutted and such. They are valuable memories but just that. And it is not "trash" I use lots of vintage lenses and, for my use, they are fantastic value for the money and better quality that a lot of stuff built nowadays

Late to the party, but the hair transplant-stapler-goat bit absolutely slayed me.
