This was a nice little project. An unusual piece of retro-tech, BNIB, working perfectly, simple to demonstrate and yet still interesting enough to be worth showing.

Here’s the video https://youtu.be/74C9h3KO7KQ

I'd be interested to know if anyone has any recollection of ever encountering one of these in the wild. I'd be very surprised if they have.

Hope everyone is good, take it easy and look after yourself.

UPDATE: Re-uploaded

I’ve reinstated some dialog that was previously cut. Hopefully this makes the video flow better.

The Magic Message Audio-Visual Repeater

An oddity from 1986. Can you figure out what this would have been used for? A) Patrons https://www.patreon.com/techmoan usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version.

Hahaha, I had one of these! Well I never even thought I'd see one again. bought cheap $20NZD from a local surplus place in 2002 ish. Horrid sound quality but a neat concept. Everywhere I saw them installed, the suction cups gave up in the sun and the heavy transducer fell down.

Now that doesn’t surprise me - it’s like trying to hold a house brick to a window with blu-tac.

That Magic Message font is sickkkk. Really retro. Might be worth hacking into the thumbnail. Got a cool look to it like the Chord Machine font
