Two physical music format flops from the recent past (Patreon)
Content
It’s a good job that I haven’t been covering obscure music formats in chronological order, as if I had, this video might have signalled the end of the line. There can’t be many newer than the two I’m showing here. Today I’m talking about slotRadio and slotMusic, both of which flew so far under the radar, they crashed and burned largely unnoticed. Here’s what you missed.
I had imagined that this subject would only warrant a short video…but once I’d started collecting information together it really developed into something more substantial.
Behind the scenes
Just a bit of extra info demonstrating that things off camera can get surprisingly complicated for even the seemingly simplest of shots. When it came to shooting the playback demo of the slotRadio player, I routed that player’s headphone output into my Sony PCM recorder (set in record pause) in order to use the Sony PCM’s headphone output and also simultaneously route the line-out from the Sony off to the first of my two R0de wireless mic transmitters. The other wireless mic transmitter was attached to my lavalier mic for commentary. The wireless receiver attached to the camera mixed those two audio sources together live and fed them into the mic input on the ZV-1. The ZV-1 doesn’t have a headphone output but I could monitor the what I was supposed to be commenting on using the headphones attached to the PCM recorder. Getting those input levels to blend well for a recording took quite a bit of trial and error.
Anyway I hope you enjoy watching the video, take care and thanks for all your support during October.
UPDATE
There’s been a surprising amount of interest expressed in seeing the contents of the slotRadio Micro SD card. So I’ve added in a screenshot at 24:06 and re-uploaded the video.
To save everyone else the time of looking - there’s nothing of any note to see.
