This isn’t the video I intended to bring you this week, but unfortunately a family emergency took me away from home. If you have a desire to know more - there’s a paragraph in the YouTube video description. But rather than dwell on that here, I just hope you enjoy this replacement video offering instead.

The difficult circumstances surrounding making this might even have worked a little in its favour. It’s not significantly worse than normal, so that’s a big win given the constraints I was working under.

Hope your week has been far better than mine. I plan on taking the weekend off to watch some old films. Take care.

1992's Revolutionary reading device for the blind

If you're blind and you have a printed document that contains information you need to read, how do you go about doing that? You might be fortunate enough to have someone around to read it to you - but what if there's no one to ask or perhaps you don't want someone reading your private information...well why not get a computer to read it instead. That's the basic idea behind Kurzweil's Reading Edge. Q) Why am I stood by the sea to talk about this device? A) Unfortunately a very elderly relative who cares for another very elderly relative was taken into hospital in an ambulance so I spent the week as a live-in carer for the person left behind. As you can imagine this happened suddenly, so before driving over I just had enough time to pack a few clothes and pick up my laptop and a camera. Fortunately I also had some footage that I’d recorded a couple of months prior, I passed the time while they were napping by editing this video together. I shot the to-camera segments at a location a short walk from their house (after making sure they had everything they needed and a phone within reach). I recorded the footage outside as I couldn’t shoot indoors without the usual studio lighting. This video will have a few rough edges here and there, especially when it comes to the sound, but this was the best I could achieve in the difficult circumstances. --------------- SUBSCRIBE ------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 ------------- Merchandise ----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch ------------- SUPPORT --------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ---------- Outro Music ----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------ Outro Sound Effect ------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM ------ AFFILIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE ------- All links are Affiliated where possible. FAQ Q) Why are there comments from a week ago when this video has just gone live today? A) Patrons https://www.patreon.com/techmoan usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version.

I think the "ready for next page" implies that it can scan and process a page while it's still reading out the previous page.
