A shorter video this week but one featuring something I’ve wanted to cover for quite a while.

https://youtu.be/I5l75romOXY

Behind the scenes I’ve been doing a lot of admin jobs this week, things like taking a load of polystyrene to the tip and swapping projects in and out of my storage locker. I also had a day trip out with the Mrs and shot a segment for the next Patreon exclusive. This only left enough time to make a quick video, so I've picked something that I knew would only take a day to shoot and another day and a half to edit.

Hope your Sunday is going well (if you’re reading this on a Sunday). I’m going for a walk now while it’s still sunny. Have a great week.

A random record? You can bet on it.

A look at a Horse Racing game that uses Random 'Sixteen Sided' Records to determine the winner. FAQs Q) Why are there comments from a week ago when this video has just gone live today? A) Patrons usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon early and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version. Q) Why is there a picture of a cheese sandwich on screen at the beginning? A) A while ago I coined the phrase ‘A cheese sandwich video’ to describe a simple video that’s exactly what it is and nothing more - just like a cheese sandwich is a sandwich containing cheese. A cheese sandwich video is simpler video that doesn’t take weeks to assemble. It’s usually a brief demonstration of one item. If you see a cheese sandwich image pop up at the start of a video - it's a sign to expect a less complicated and elaborate video. Sometimes all a product needs (or deserves) is a simple demonstration - and that’s where the ‘cheese sandwich‘ video comes in. There's nothing wrong with a cheese sandwich, but if you were expecting to get a steak dinner you might be disappointed when a cheese sandwich turns up. It's all about setting expectations. ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM

I have a 12" Promo of The Sugarcubes 'Birthday' from 1988 which features a double-groove on Side A. Their cool idea was to have two mixes of the same song which were identical bar the addition of an extra guitar part courtesy of The Jesus & Mary Chain. The specific mix you'd landed on only became clear about a minute into the song. While I have the promo, there was also a regular 12" version, also with the double-groove, though I've not heard that one yet. https://www.discogs.com/The-Sugarcubes-Birthday-Christmas-Mix/release/1339557

A follow-up a year later (counting on Mat being notified 😃). This was just posted by Record-ology: https://youtu.be/X94bqVnpV-A The very same concept, horse race and all, although it's done on a single 45 rpm record rather than several 33s. And it predates your game by two decades, or more, so I guess the game designer(s?) got the idea from RCA/Bluebird. Perhaps something to mention on the next Odd-cast?
