Here’s a video that’s both relevant and timely to pretty much everyone: How to fix the buzz on a rare games machine from 1983. I anticipate that I’ll be able to retire after this one goes big.  https://youtu.be/nVx9rJv6HFE

A quick plug

In other news - I wonder if any of the electrical experts reading this can help me identify a power socket, so I can search for the appropriate plug/cable that fits in it.

It's almost the same dimensions as an IEC C7 (commonly referred to as a 'Figure-of-Eight plug') - but a bit shorter, oblong and with an indent only on one side (the left). If all else fails I'll take a Dremel to an IEC C7 - but the pin spacing is a bit different.  I don't seem to be able to embed a picture here - so here's a link to a picture of the socket with a IEC C7 plug next to it for comparison. https://ibb.co/vYnFt51

The IEC C9 is a similar shape, but much bigger, that's more like a kettle lead...so it's not one of those.  It's on a piece of weird old Japanese equipment, so you can probably strike out the IEC plug types, I seem to remember seeing it before on a piece of 1960s US equipment too...but the socket must have a name - I was thinking of calling it Brian...

UPDATE

Many thanks for all the suggestions about the plug - I've ordered a few things now and I'll see if any of them fit when they arrive.  I also had to do a tiny fraction of a second snip to the video - so that's now been re-uploaded (the 4K version may still be processing) .

Thanks again.

Vectrex Buzz-Off Kit Installation

Thirty six years after seeing (and hearing) my first Vectrex - I'm finally doing something about its infamous buzz. The majority of the video shows how I got on with installing the Buzz-off kit, but towards the end of the video there's also a brief demo of a new Vectrex light pen. LINKS I bought my Vectrex Buzz-Off kit from Obtanium Gaming on ebay Here’s the EBAY AFFILIATED LINK to the item https://ebay.to/3cwN8KW I’m not sure if Rastislav is making more light pens - it’s more a hobby than a business, however he does have an ebay page, so if you want one then you could always send him a message through there - here’s the (non-affiliated) link https://ebay.to/2Yaow5R ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM ------AFFILIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE------- All links are Affiliated where possible. really cool! Never knew there was a lightpen for the Vectrex though. It's interesting. It was the second ever games console I saw and tried when I was young. I loved it from the start! In the mean time, my cat is tearing my center speaker apart that I installed yesterday. Oh well. It's good to see that I'm not the only slightly clumsy person attempting stuff like this. Watching Jan Beta, but also 8-Bit Guy almost prevents me from tinkering, afraid I'd completely destroy what I try to work on... Thanks Mat!

If you don't have one, get yourself a small compressor and keep it in your garage for cleaning out vintage tech - you wouldn't believe how much more effective it is than a can of air or the completely useless toy vacuum cleaners you used to get for computer keyboards. Compressed air is like "spraying newness" into old kit. If you are cleaning computers, stick a finger/pencil etc. into the fans before blowing air onto them - they sound like little jet turbines as they spin but it can damage the bearings..

I should get something - as you can imagine, space is at a premium.
