This is showcasing a really pleasing piece of tech from thirty years ago, when Sony were at the top of their game.

Unusually I’m quite satisfied with how this video has turned out, it seems to flow better than most.

It’s also got a longer than typical comedy outro which took a full day to make due to the complexity of having a video within a video.  It’s the Inception of outros.

I’m posting this one quite a few days early on Patreon as the weekend seems like a good time to watch youtube.

Everyone else will be seeing this in a few days.

The stretch 'Walkman' - fixed-up & shown-off

Sony occasionally repurposed the compact cassette mechanisms developed for Walkmans in devices like this impressive do-it-all travel companion for an international man of mystery. UPDATE: I noticed in the closeups that a few parts of the Walkman needed another clean - so after the video was edited I’ve gone back and done this. Specifically there’s a bit of belt residue that you can see on the tape door in some shots. That stuff gets everywhere - you’ll also see it on my fingers in the review of the 40th Anniversary Walkman. Belt purchased from https://fixyouraudio.com There’s still time before Christmas to blow your hard earned money on some worthless merch. -------------Merchandise----------------- https://teespring.com/stores/techmoan-merch Comedy outro available on its own here: https://youtu.be/DhwEk1vIQKw Playlist of these available here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN2yCnHTG_6rlyYFpwUX2u0m_HVHpHO0F Don’t forget to like that bell and thumb up the subscribe. ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan *******Patrons usually have early access to videos******* (The statement above is invisible). ----------Outro Music----------- Over Time - Vibe Tracks https://youtu.be/VSSswVZSgJw ------Outro Sound Effect------ ThatSFXGuy - https://youtu.be/5M3-ZV5-QDM

Kudos to Sony: As a quality company they designed for repair, and not just for lowest-cost assembly. Take apart the typical "no-name" brand portable electronic gizmo, and you'll enjoy the exact opposite approach (as you cuss and swear).

Matt: Next time you're confronted by sticky belt residue on capstans and idlers, try a Q-tip (or whatever you call cotton swabs in England) dipped in 92% isopropyl alcohol. Change the Q-tip as soon as it gets dirty. If you're careful to stay away from the plastic and nylon bits, you can also use lighter fluid (in a well-ventilated room). Been removing gummy old seals from the film door grooves on vintage 35mm cameras (which are about the same width and depth as the grooves on your Sony's moving parts) that way for years.
