The rubies have no idea what humans are like. They're gems and gems can hit baseball through the atmosphere so they'd be like "Huh. Guess humans can do that too". The only thing they know for sure humans can't do is fuse. Not many gems go to Earth anymore so it's not really widely known to most homeworld gems. Onlu the occasion mission like peridot & jasper, or the rubies. Since its protected by the crystal gems. Also, Lapis chooses the name Bob because back in season 1 she thanks Steven for his help and he goes "no prob, bob" and replies with something like "my name's Lapis"
