Pyrrha's Semblance is Polarity, much like Magneto she can manipulate metals. It's how she recalls her spear and shield etc to perfectly catch them after a throw. It's a nice small detail that like Mercury says makes her look better than she is (and she's already great.)

And for clarity, Sun IS a Student of one of the visiting schools. He and Neptune come from Haven (the same place Cinder's squad are claiming to be students of)
