Marceline's ex boyfriend, Ash, sold Hambo without Marceline's permission. That was the final straw which is why she broke up with him. The shirt was given to Bubblegum by Marceline at some point in the past, it's the item that was stolen from PB in "What Was Missing", and Marceline blushed when she realised Bubblegum kept the shirt she gave her. The fact that the shirt had even more sentimental value than Hambo says a lot. Simon gave Hambo to Marceline 996 years earlier, when they were the only people in the wreckage of the world. Simon took care of her and was like her father and only friend during those times, so you can imagine how much Hambo meant to her. Yet a shirt given by Marceline means even more to Bubblegum than Hambo does to Marceline, yet Bubblegum still gave that up just to make Marceline happy.
