He’s not her Grandfather he was just engaged to her Grandmother. Her Grandfather is presumably from the Southern Water tribe and her Grandmother met him after she left.

God, I can't stand the concept of arranged marriages. I don't care what culture or traditions or whatever you believe in... If you would force your child to spend their life with someone they don't love, you are a horrible parent and a horrible person. Imagine not letting your own child be happy with the one they truly love. And what, you even expect them to have children with this person they're not in love with? You're not really a parent if you'd give your child's life away like that. That's like selling them into slavery or sending them to prison for their whole life. If you put tradition/culture/religion or anything else before the safety and happiness of your child, you shouldn't be having children in the first place.
