Applejack's Protectiveness: Well, AJ has shown concern for Apple Bloom in the past, just never to this extreme. She was worried about Apple Bloom in the first Zecora episode quite a bit, and she's done little things here and there, such as reassuring Apple Bloom that she's always there to protect her during the camping episode after Rainbow Dash told her scary stories. So there IS some level of motherly protectiveness shown throughout the series. But... yeah. This episode cranked it up to 10. There IS a very, very good reason for Applejack to act so motherly to Apple Bloom, though. Something that concerns AJ, Apple Bloom, and even Big Mac. If you pay attention to AJ throughout the series, she has always been a motherly type who always puts family first. And there is definitely a reason behind her obsession with family and her fear of harm coming to any of them. Thankfully, I can't recall AJ going back to this extreme level, so I think it was just for this episode. I could be wrong, though.

I absolutely love the animation when Apple Bloom ran around the chimera, GG DHX ^_^

To be fair to AJ, she wasn't really ready for Applebloom to grow up just yet and was a bit... or a lot in denial and overcompensating. We know she's VERY family-oriented and people do act like AJ... . She likely wouldn't catch up with Big Mac, as he was going somewhere else. . Just because the lion tamer uses a chair traditionally doesn't mean that chair only works on lions. . I think the ricotta was just to be nice since the chimera was simply trying to eat. Perhaps it also buys an easier trek back?
