This was a fan favorite episode at the time of release, and got a lot of fans excited to know whether or not Pinkie is actually related to the Apple family or not. Unfortunately, a few fans got a bit too obsessed and bugged the show staff relentlessly to give us a solid answer. Not a good look for us fans. Despite all that, the episode showcased a dynamic that most of us hadn't even considered to that point: Pinkie Pie and Applejack. There hadn't really been many moments between the two characters up to this point, and it turns out they make for an entertaining pair. You may have noticed now, but letters to the Princess all but disappeared after Twilight became a princess herself. She now keeps the Journal of Friendship, and everypony writes their lessons directly into it. Ah, and good old Goldie Delicious, the Apple Family historian. She's actually voiced by Big Macintosh's voice actor, Peter New, if you can believe it. She's a crazy one.

I figured you'd like this episode. "Apples to the Core" is a great song. This gives a big more depth to the relationship between AJ and Pinkie. Pinkie seems to have left her family farm (which we saw briefly once or twice), and came alone to Ponyville. Having some (very) extended family in the Apples gives her a true home. I believe the point of the smudges is to underscore the lesson that the way they treat each other is more important than the ties of blood and marriage themselves. Maybe Pinkie is related and maybe she is not, but they love her all the same.

Wow. Those 'fans' really missed the point of the episode. Pinkie's family because she's accepted as such. <3

While it's never confirmed if Pinkie's related or not, she does share some traits with Goldie Delicious-- the hellOOOOO, the curly hair, and love of sweets. . Dead dust cat! MLP: A KID'S SHOW. . Why were both smudged? Maybe one was a copy of the other? Or perhaps Goldie's just... uh... messy.

Other little things Pinkie & Goldie Delicious share; Goldie's scarf is the same shade of pink as Pinkie's coat & Goldie grabbed the lowest book in the pile similarly to how Pinkie picked the lowest scroll in the beginning,

Here we are one of the best episodes in the show for me just on music alone.

This was a fun ep. Few details, the little song Applebloom sings when getting the map was a nod to a then popular fandom meme 'Ponylicious" actually started by Tara Strong herself. While they are outside Goldies cabin, at one point you can see the shadow of Slenderpony in the woods behind them. And Goldie is awesome, one of if not the most popular members of the extended Apple Family.

My favorite is Pinkie Pie, then it it Twilight, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Applejack. The reason for this order is a combination of how entertaining they are, and my love for analyzing the characters' psyche. Apple Jack is the most simple out of all the characters and it's not interesting to me

Fun fact about this episode; When Pinkie is drawing herself in the mirror with Pegasus wings in the cabin, it's a nod to the original design when she was a Pegasus pony. You can do a google search to find the original drawing that Lauren Faust did of Pinkie Pie as a Pegasus pony. I believe Fluttershy was also originally an earth pony.
