Yeah, the big reveal we've all been warning you about was the human transformation. The "Spoiler Free" edit I put in the Discord had the relevant section of the credits blanked out, so you would've had no idea what's happening until Twilight holds up her hands. Honestly, her freakout there is one of the best parts of the movie. So the story on how this came about is this. Hasbro's big rival, Mattel (major toy company best known for Barbie and Hot Wheels) released a new line of dolls called "Monster High" targeting a slightly older age range than MLP was designed for (though obviously MLP has been wildly successful outside this demographic). Hasbro executives decided they wanted a slice of the high-school doll pie, and directed their toy designers to come up with something. To bring a product to market faster, someone had the idea of reusing their unexpectedly successful MLP show. They did whatever it is businesses do to make toys, then the executives decided that what the new line really needed was a promotional movie. I imagine that must've been a fun meeting: "We're making a new doll line" "Neat" "And we're going to need you to make a movie to get it going" "Okay, what's it about?" "We're stealing the MLP characters. They're going to be high-schoolers. And humans. But still pony-colored" "...wtf" And thus it was that Hasbro made a High School Alternate Universe of their own series. It's fairly common in fanfiction circles for people to try and write (usually mediocre at best) adaptations of stories re-imagining everything as a high school. It's very rare for it to happen in official media from a major corporation. The first movie is one of the best examples of how the writers make do with the absurd requirements handed down by upper management. It has some good bits, and a few catchy songs, but isn't anything particularly special. However, the next movie, Rainbow Rocks, is very highly acclaimed in the fandom, and in my opinion is one of the best parts of the MLP franchise. I particularly liked Cheerilee's aggravated look as she tries to explain the computer to Twilight. At least her human self probably doesn't have to wrangle the Cutie Mark Crusaders like her pony counterpart does...

Love that they used the Transformers sound effect when Pinkie emerges from her ball form. . Sunset Shimmer's VA is Twilight's singing VA. . Rarity is best beat boxer in Canterlot.

I know it's an old one, but I couldn't help but comment since you seemed so confused as to why there was no Twilight at Canterlot High. Canterlot High is the Equestria Girls equivalent of Ponyville (a suburb of a larger city), if you remember back to S1 E1 of MLP:FiM, everyone but Twilight lived in Ponyville already, whereas Twilight lived in Canterlot. This is why the EQ Twilight doesn't go to Canterlot High, she goes elsewhere since, as Pinky said, she lives in the city.
