There's an argument to be made that it was the right call. Commander Adama made a tactical decision in support of the larger strategy of preserving the fleet's military strength. Starbuck isn't just any pilot, she's the best one they've got, and their lead (if not only) flight instructor when they are already short-staffed. Without her, it's likely that the combat fleet will slowly get picked off with no up and coming pilots, and it's only a matter of time before they are defenseless. Meanwhile, the fleet was in no immediate danger. It was a risky call, and no doubt influenced by personal feelings. It's a major theme that you have to make those calls and live with the consequences. Sometimes you get lucky, like Commander Adama did this time. But you don't always get lucky, as Kara knows with Zac, and sometimes you lose people you care about--plot armor notwithstanding.

Been enjoying your reactions to this but I'm gonna have to have a break after this if you can't see why someone would break the rules to rescue someone they consider a daughter. I'd commit genocide to rescue my son.

Man that was one hell of a rant the whole episode! 😂 Since you've seen the whole show now, it's interesting to watch things again (or watch reactions) and wonder if (and in some cases actually see) that some things that happen in the show that can seem unrealistic, I suppose, could possibly have had a reason for them happening that wouldn't be revealed until far into the series that wouldn't make them actually unrealistic, but purposeful. And as a viewer, it can sometimes be frustrating to be like "Waaaaait, you'll see though!" but seeing the reaction of someone who doesn't know at the time that there's a lot of "serendipity" in the show for a reason because the show hasn't actually shown them yet, is still a lot of fun! So thanks for the reactions, I'm enjoying them!
