The key thing to know about this episode is that Tom Zarek is played by Richard Hatch. He played Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica TV show, and wrote a number of Battlestar Galactica novels in the 1990s. He was vocally opposed to a reboot (as were many fans of the original). Getting him on board was important to the success of the show.
