you are wrong, there's nothing subtle about that starwars reference. also john de lancie aka Q.

Welcome to season 2. I'd like to point out that when you reach episode 14 of the season, you must watch the version available on this site: https://yp1.yayponies.no/videos/episodes.php as the episode in question is censored on Netflix. That's all I can say without spoilers.

Here's the ending of this episode and the Star Wars movie side by side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4wh4FnwiAg It's pretty much exactly the same lol

I have to 2nd what Emil Borg said above re: Episode 14. Well, to this point Discord is by far the most powerful creature shown. Sadly, Celestia would have been useless to try to stop him, as only the Elements of Harmony were powerful enough to defeat him, and Celestia lost her link to them when Twilight and her friends came along. Definitely a confirmed Star Wars reference at the end there (confirmed by show staff). From this point forward there will be a LOT of things to look out for if you enjoy nods and references. And so Twilight and her friends are now saviors of Equestria twice over. One villain redeemed, one turned to stone. Twilight's words in the episode are important. Way back in season 1 she said the fate of Equestria doesn't rest on her making friends, but in this episode she's begun to realize that maybe the opposite is true. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

Just to clear some things a bit, remember how in the first two episodes of the show the 6 main ponies each were assigned an element? Applejack represents Honesty, Fluttershy rep Kindness, Rarity rep Generosity, Rainbow Dash rep Loyalty, Pinkie Pie rep Laughter, and Twilight Sparkle rep Magic. The “spirits” of the element resides in each of them now and the necklaces and crown are just tools to help them cast the mega death rainbow lasers they use to defeat villains. So in these episodes, Discord is aware of how the elements work and so he does everything he can to turn the 6 ponies into the opposite of their elements, effectively shutting down the elements of harmony so that it can’t be used to turn him into stone. That’s why they didn’t work when Twilight and her crew of angry friends tried to use them. The reason Twilight didn’t turned gray sooner is because she is the element of Magic, this element is the combination of all 5 other elements. And so when their friendship ended, that was effectively the end of the element of Magic as well. Now I’ll admit the way they got their elements back at the end there is a bit deus ex machina but I think it was due to time constraints. The important thing is that since they all represented their elements once again, they were able to cast the magical rainbow laser. Also I’m glad you’re noticing Celestia is being very hands off when it comes to these world changing conflicts. I wonder why? What could Celestia be planning, sending Twilight and her friends to these crazy and dangerous situations? :)

"I guess you just bring out the worst in us, Spike" That was one of the cruelest things in the episode, I think. Good thing he's so resilient. . "I wonder if Tom is ever going to be a thing." Someone needs to watch some fan content. . Fluttershy has said she's not that strong a flyer. She carries small animals usually, but nothing her size. Fluttershy does underestimate herself in terms of speed and strength, but she doesn't have Rainbow Dash's training, top speed, or stamina.

You're not crazy, that was a deliberate nod to Star Wars. :D

Tamara Burt

A reminder - Fluttershy is not strong enough to carry even one pony on her own at this time, so your plan wouldn't have worked out in the way you pictured.

Whether or not the ponies actually turned grey or if it was just symbolic has been debated ever since, the only ones to comment on it were Spike and Pinkie, the two who have a rather lose association with the fourth wall. When it comes to dealing with threats, Celestia tends to be a chessmaster, putting Twilight in just the right position to get it done. Production trivia, this was produced a part of the season 1 production block, hence why it kind of serves as a capstone to Twilight's journey so far and why certain changes to the animation from this season don't kick in till the next episode. Which means this was also the last episode the Lauren Faust had a direct hand in before moving to a more advisory role for Season 2.
