It's not that the White Rabbit appears every time he trips, it's just whatever he hallucinates that comes to life. When we see him dropping tabs at the start he's watching TV and switching between shows about rabbits, golf, and like a reservoir dogs knock off.

This was one of my favourites too. It was a bit random but I really liked it. The season finale episode is excellent. There are also a few really good episodes to come in season 5 (which was the joint weakest season along with season 3, IMO, but still has some excellent standalone episodes).
