"First they came for Alexi Jonas..." Well, really, they had always been there, but only for the truly illegal or legit extreme. In the past, the rulers had censored and controlled all speech so when a lone rebel voice had spoken out even its silencing could give it power. The new protocol was to let any and all information go free, but that itself was designed to be a prison without walls, a gulag with no visible barbed wire. The rabble was free to babble right, left, center, up, down and plain out there… Cries for changing the system were drowned out by the crushing weight of free speech. Authorities only needed to cull obviously illegal weeds now and then. With the weight of extreme free speech even the worst, most virulent voices had trouble finding any support. But eventually the powers that be had dreams - of godhood. They thought they should be praised for the utopia they saw themselves as the creators of and were horrified when they found others did not see it their way. From gilded palaces surrounded by sycophants they heard some of the peasantry complaining and feared old times of revolt...
