 Hello and good night everyone!

This is one of those posts where I ask for our community's input to decide a potential new line of content and releases for our Librarium release schemes!

Lately it has come to my attention that we have a lot of humanoid heroes and characters being suggested and topping our monthly polls, while the animation and graphic style format we use for Librarium animated is ideal for the monster side, that format isnt optimized for them to be used as player side playable characters most of the time!

For that end I was tinkering with a potential idea:

Having one or two of our monthly librarium animated releases be swapped out with a Pixel Sideview battler release!

These Pixel Sideview battlers would look just as the one showcased above, that one is a character of my own for a sideproject of mine I am currently working on called MagnumRed!

Heres a closer look at the style!

Few things to consider about these battlers:

  • They would come with their own weapon and animation flair in the spritesheet, that means they would not be compatible with the way RPGmaker MV overlays weapon sprites on top of animated sideview sprites!
  • They would be released as an RPG Maker MV Sidevide battler spritesheet, but also as individual PNG frames for use in other engines such as gamemaker and unity!
  • Reward wise, they would be treated as other current Animated monsters, meaning the base release available from slime level would cover the animated battler sheet itself , but other elements such as the bust portrait and 4-direction map sprite would remain in the dragon tier!

If it materializes, we would be replacing one of the Librarium Animated releases each update cycle , with a pixel style SV battler! That means our new release scheme could potentially look like this per update cycle:

  • Librarium Animated - Animated Monster A
  • Librarium Pixel SV Battler - Animated Hero A
  • Librarium Statics - Monster pack I
  • Librarium Statics - Monster pack II

Now this is the part where I would love to hear your thoughts! Is this something you would like to see? Are there any questions?

I'd love to hear what everyone has to say!

It’s a great idea! I’m waiting for your next release 😍

I like the idea. I'd definitely be interested in something like that.

I love it! Means potentially we can see some of the human villains (Legendary Knights, anyone?) turn into playable characters later!

Hmm, have to be honest I'm not too fond of this idea due to having to swap two animated slots maybe one but I see a problem with this also. Having said that this style does have the appeal of being closer to sv actor battlers, but, I feel that a backlog of animated suggestions will occur (and perhaps already is). This idea will also have backlog given the positive responses on the page. I'm concerned that this will overwhelm you with X number of ideas pools a-z building up and you being only able to do two of each a month isn't desirable. If I suggest two animated ideas that's a month worth of your time times the number of patrons and this is where I see a problem. I was thinking about suggesting a lot more and this idea cuts motivation to do so as this puts further pressure on you to make another poll or simply exclude ideas then it gets to a point where there will be too many ideas. How to move forward is a difficult question but looking at the responses I guess it'll mean you'll take on this idea.

nothing set on stone yet! This is why I want to hear as many opinions as possible, since you do bring up valid points! Another route I was considering for this, is for these type of characters to be released as itch.io spin off products, that way they are still available to patrons as an extra perk, but dont invade the Librarium line of releases haha.

That sounds interesting and I would be for that, but, doesn't that just increase your workload even more? I suppose the advantage of doing it your suggested way is you can work to your own schedule and hopefully a mitigate being overworked. An interesting idea for sure.

I would certainly need to plan very carefully, as It is an idea which requires alot of planning, but thats why I opened up this post to discuss about it, and bring up interesting points like everything you mentioned! Thanks!

Actually, I like the idea, but for the future. For the moment I think there are not enough animated monsters. I'd like to have a game full of animated monsters, but right now, we only have enough for animated bosses. I'd like every one of my monsters animated, even the mobs we challenge for most of the game. So I'd be disappointed to see less enemies. However I do think we have enough statics, so if you want to stop doing static enemies and replace those with one animated hero I'd be completely in favour of that !

by the way, I don't really like the style of your animated heroes. We already have those big-headed characters in MV, we don't need more of this style. But more proportionnate heroes, like your knight virgel recently, can really be useful.

Best idea ever ! Of course we need heroes that match your awesome foes ! Defaut MV char are just meh :p
