Hi guys,

So, bad news, my secondary HDD crashed and I lost data for the games. Main SSD is fine but only 250Gb in size so I couldn't keep the games on it. I do have online backups for all my games, hopefully they'll work. The disk was starting to fail a few days ago so I don't know if any files got corrupted during those last few days.

I took this "opportunity" (isn't everything a matter of perspective ? :D) to get a better rig. Current one is 5 years old (bought in 2017, Alienware Aurora R7), dunno if it's considered old in the development or gaming circles. The "new" one will be 2 or 3 years old I think (Aurora R10), so already outdated but still better than what I have. Couldn't afford a better one unfortunately (Who the fuck spends 2000$ only on a GPU??? Fucking crypto...). Just giving those details in case any patron has advices for future rigs since I'm not really aware of what's the best for the right price. I was in a bit of a rush to resume work so I couldn't wait, just went with the previous brand with small upgrade.

It'll take some time to receive it and install back everything. I hope to be done in a few days.

So this means Glassix 2 v0.3, the Roots editor, will be delayed until I get everything back up. I'll let you know once I'm back to work.

And as a reminder, if you wanna help, don't forget you can get a yearly membership with 15% discount, meaning two months free! ;)

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your support as always!

Ever heard of offline backups? WD My Passport Portable 5TB (2.5") costs 99 EUR right now.

Well, I did have an external HD for backups a few years back which broke down too, losing everything on it :/ This is one reason I went with online backup this time, since Mega will always have alternate servers in case of crash. Another reason for online backup is that the process to backup is automatic, just tell Mega which folder to backup and he'll do it each time a file is modified. I guess the same is possible with an external hard drive but I never looked into it. Maybe I should check as you said. More backups is always better once :D

Another solution (depends on how much spare money you have) for a backup would be a NAS with a RAID. Minimum setup would be two HDDs (NAS compatible, normal HDDs are not meant to work 24/7) and RAID 1 (meaning the data will be copied on both drives, so you have effectively only half the size).

How much does the minimum setup cost? Does such a set up have to be constantly on?
