Well it ended up all good, but not without a few more twists. Just finished the video, will likely make it public tomorrow, but you get to know (and post public comments if you watch in on YouTube) earlier. And if you wonder, I was relieved too. I wasn't so confident this was going to work out. Thanks for your support! Stay safe and healthy.

HP Switching Power Supply Repair Part 4: Repaired!

Here is part 4 of our HP switched mode power supply epic debug. We progressively recover from our previous ElectroBOOM disaster, and bring our power supply and precious HP 85645A instrument back to life. But not without a few more steps, one of them maybe involving too much reverse engineering. As if there is such a thing. What a journey! "Oh no, we managed to over reverse engineer it.." LOL I guess you can cancel the Exorcist now! ;-) Well done, sir!

Great. Gives me some hints on how I can fix my crazy 8/E supply. My good fortune is that the 8/E supply doesn't "blow up" with HV applied - just has nutso voltages just about everywhere. Glad yours is happily working!!! Bummer that it is nearly impossible to know for sure what started it all.
