Seems like there would have been a bunch of H2 in the chamber at the end there. I was half expecting a big flash when the air was let back in. The fuel to air mixture must have been wrong.

I was also expecting an explosion. I found myself backing away from the screen

At 2:45, I assume it didnt melt because under vacuum the BP of water is less than the melting point of sodium. Sodium melts at 97C, so 100C at atmospheric is just enough.
