In the day phase it's really hard to see anything but the little movement that can be seen is quite interesting. Thank you Cody :)

Notice that the mercury sticks to the tube walls. If a vibrator were added and activated briefly before each exposure, the mercury would appear to move more steadily.

I think commercially made barometers used to have a special coating, the recipe for that eludes me however. The vibrator idea does sound attractive though.
