> FOLLOW THE SINGING

With a hiss, Samus took a jerky step forward, planting a foot clearly in the middle of the right-hand path. Tch, she thought, I was planning to go this way anyway.

Sighing, she looked over her shoulder at Zelda. “It looks,” she said, voice dark, “that they want us to go this way.”

The frail princess nodded. “Indeed.” She sighed.

The two of them set off in silence, ignoring the vivid pink flowers and the plump, juicy fruit. The singing grew louder with every step they took.

“Nyanyanyaaa~. Nyanyanyaaaa~.”

The cat’s eye drones hovered behind them as they walked.

Finally, Samus saw a flash of motion through the treeline ahead. Skidding to a stop, she stepped off the path and into cover. Zelda followed her without a word.

“Nyanyanyaa~.”

Poking her head around the tree, Samus squinted. Whoever was there had yet to show any sign of noticing them. They should take a minute to observe and gather information before they–

Her Collar beeped, and with a single sharp movement, Samus threw herself out of cover and straight into the clearing. Zelda followed barely a second later.

“Nyanya–nya?”

In the center of the clearing stood an elegant little table, covered in teacups and -pots and little plates filled with cakes and surrounded on all sides by chairs of stuffed animals. Nearby,  a lily-haired catperson in a floral bikini and sunhat stood frozen, bent over the flowers, her watering can still trickling. “N-nya?”

“Oh–oh!” she said, snapping upright. “Nyou’re here already? Oh nyo, I didn’t expect that! I thought nyou’d spend some time screwing first! Nyaaah, nyow what do I do?!”

Samus and Zelda exchanged a glance. Looking around, Samus spotted a broken branch lying beside a plant with what resembled swollen lips. As covertly as she could, she bent to pick it up.

“Oh! Where are my manners?” said the catgirl. Bouncing over to them so quickly Samus instinctively went to block. “My nyame’s Yuri, nya. Do nyou like the jungle? I made it myself!” She patted a rubbery tree proudly–something thick and sticky squirted from its bark.

Samus opened her mouth to respond and found it empty of words. Fortunately, the cat person kept talking.

“Hmm,” she said. “They told me nyot to go and out and catch nyou before I’m told, nya, but they didn’t say what to do if nyou came to me. I think that means I can do what I like with nyou, but I dunno, that seems like it would be kinda mean, nya? Nyou are my guests after all. Hmm… Hmm… What should I do? What should I do? …Would nyou like a cup of tea, nya?”

The pair’s Collars beeped.
