I have needed a new office chair for the past year and a half, but the only chair that supports my weight has been sold out everywhere, and it's not even a real office chair (in that it doesn't roll). The extra-wide waiting room chair that I'm sitting in as I type this has been slowly losing parts - it's supposed to support up to 1000 pounds, but the welds keeping the extra bars in place (that make it sturdier) have broken. I've thrown away two metal bars that have worked their way off the chair and currently it's a little wobbly to sit in. But, it's holding together still, luckily (knock on wood).

The padding also leaves a lot to be desired, so I have augmented that with a thick piece of firm cushion foam, topped with a foam butt cushion. When I sit on them the whole stack squishes into less than an inch but it does improve the comfort of the chair! Of course people make good cushions, too.

I did buy a couple of normal-sized waiting room chairs (that are also rated to handle up to 1000 pounds) to use in other rooms in the house, but they aren't wide enough or padded well enough for my huge body. My thighs rest directly on the metal which gets uncomfortable quickly.

The chair I'm using in these photos is one of those normal-sized chairs. I try to give it a little more padding by adding my 5' 9" and 155 pound friend. He gives me some nice hugs and feels around on me while I squeeze.
