Hey guys, it has been a long time, but I am finally back! This video has been a lot of work to make and it's also by far the longest and most difficult project I've ever done (in terms of both filming and editing).

I hope you like it! Let me know if you see any errors or problems with the video.

Also, as usual, this isn't the final version. The final one will have all of the Patron credits at the end!

I just joined the patreon channel and a little disappointed that there is very little new content?

Nonivamide! I've been so excited for this one!

so happy you’re back nigel! excited to see your latest project 💛💛

I can't believe this came out the week I started supporting Nile! #blessed 🤠

I got my NileRed beaker mug with tea in it let's goooo!

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Step aside, gamer girl. Chemist boy is back.

New drinking game: take a shot every time a separatory funnel gets used

I love the casual mention of a ($55k) new NMR machine in passing. That could be great for some shorts!

Anonymous

Soo happy for this!! Thank you for your hard work poured into this!! 🔥

Anonymous

The YouTube shorts have been fun!! But ... There's nothing like a full project to see your mad genius in full glory.

Max Goldstein

Can you add those section/chapter things so we can better navigate this beast?

Anonymous

Hey Nile, I hate to nitpick but I think I noticed an error at 11:47 when you label the Chromic acid as chromium trioxide. I could also be wrong and just misunderstanding the diagram.

Marta

Holy spice, what a killer project! I hope it was at least 10% as fun as it was soul consuming. And once i thought you had beaten the final chemistry boss when you made glove soda, but you've just moved to another level. You were literally risking your life there to make it, that's admirable. Mmmmm a new shiny NMR, a decent investment 👍 "A nice bath" gets me every time.

Nice to see you're back, your vids are always a joy to watch.

Heyy, i was wondering why you, when you wanted to convert the Vanilin to the amine, did not just convert the Aldehyde to the Imine with Ammonia and then reduced it with NaBH4. This was what came straight to my mind, because its a pretty common way to get amines. Would love you to elaborate on that :)

Anonymous

It was an awesome video and project! I'm glad to see that despite all your hardships, you managed to acheive your goal! And being able to transform plastic gloves and vanilla to hot sauce blows my mind. Your channel reminded me how much I loved chemistry.

Anonymous

hot ones interview with Neilred but he brings the hot sauce!

Are we all just going to ignore "I shot in all of my goopy liquid"?

Anonymous

whoah this is a feature length production

Anonymous

Someone pointed this out in the video comments but just wanted to raise here that Chromic Acid is mislabeled as the trioxide (around 11:45)

Amro

That was epic! Well done. Must have been exhausting making that video. It's amazing (to me, a non-chemist) how many organic substances can be synthesised from vanillin and Isovanillin . 👏

Wanting to see this as a NileGreen parody on NileRed's actual channel. I know you made grape flavor in the past, so this is probably not a parody in any form. :)

Matthew Wilson

Maybe there is a way to make a cyanide complex from nitrile gloves, since nitrile is a CN group.

Anonymous

Awesome video. I have waited for this since the grape flavor video. I have some idea that maybe work to oxidize the isononanol with KMnO7. If you use a phase-transfer catalyst or PTC that could work. I have done something similar with the PTC aliquat 336. I oxidize benzhydrol to benzophenone (a sunscreen similar to a sunscreen you made a couple of years ago). I'm not to deep in NMR but i read that the magnets musst be cooled with liquid Helium to work. I can imagine that this can be expensive. But anyway its cool that you can gear up to give us this amazing videos.

sooooo, next up we gonna see a collab with first we feast?

Another ridiculously awesome project. I'm impressed at your patience on this. Oh, about that "bad at cooking" - show me a cook that can make hot sauce from *those* ingredients. 😄

Anonymous

Once again you have nailed it! It was well worth the $ 10! Entertaining and good. :)

Great video, and I am looking forward to more of the "cutting edge" projects!

It's like my pain over the years of NP synthesis concentrated in one video: Never change the literature procedure unless with hard evidences. Always leave reserve intermediate and do small test at first. Never throw away anything (like the aquious phase of extraction or the silica gel of FCC) until final confirmation of success. Also I thought you would just run samples at other facilities. My jaw dropped when you took out that NMR. The specs seems better than what I thought would be look like.

Anonymous

“This is exactly how it was supposed to end.” Loved it! So great!

Anonymous

Not a chem major, but how risky is it for there to be something toxic left over in the final result that you end up eating? Also, looking forward to a cooking channel done in the same style.

Anonymous

It seemed pretty wild to me that ethanol was left in the final product and you ate it

Anonymous

That was one of the best videos on YouTube. Finally became a patron.

nilered

The amount that I was tasting was small enough that the risk was minimal. Especially with the spectroscopic data. It is still technically a risk though and I definitely don't recommend doing it.

This was long overdue. I have watched your videos since may 2014. I discovered your channel via a channel recommendation on NurdRages channel on making schweizer's reagent. I consistently watched all your videos which was rare for me since I was literally 13 when I found your channel. I always loved chem and your channel was one of the few great channels that really kept me going. . The videos were and are incredible, and I figured that it was time to give some support. I still cant believe that your face reveal and lab moves still feel like they were yesterday. I am really happy to see you get some well deserved recognition. Thank you for everything.

once again you did a good job

Ryan Yanashima

Since when did you get an NMR?
