Hey bros! What’s up!

I upload this post on my blog too, so go there if you want to read it.

If you subscribed to Jake Parker’s Inktober Newsletter, you probably know the prompt list he sent through your email or the post he uploaded on his Instagram account last Friday (September 1st). But, if you’re not a subscriber of his mailing list nor following his Instagram account, well, let me show you the official prompt for the Inktober 2023 in case you want to participate, so here it is:

This year, I’m going to show two new OCs for this Inktober, so I’m planning to make a wholesome story of these two like the fisherman and the mermaid from my MerMay art challenge. My characters are Arthur Ryan, a normal guy who does a lot of gigs to make a living, including pretending to be a ghost hunter (kind of like a scammer), and Myra Allision the Ghost Girl from another time in the past (also, I made a new redesign of this character, take a look at my Instagram account).

Additionally, I’m taking this opportunity to announce that I’m going to post my Inktober arts on my Patreon page as an Early Access post before It gets published on my social media; that’s almost one month before it gets public! This benefit is only for patrons. So, if you’re curious about my arts and want to see them before everyone else, become a patron.

Also, and this is kind of like a piece of sad news, I want to announce that, this will probably be my last Inktober that I’m going to participate. In fact, these probably will be the last long art challenges that I will do like Huevember and MerMay. By the end of MerMay art challenge in May, I will not be going to do another long art challenge like Inktober in the future.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like Inktober. This is a great art challenge and it helped me a lot in my art skills. And, if you’re a beginner artist or an artist who has a lot of experience and wants to rekindle your muse, you should give it a try for a lot of reasons: it’s an opportunity to meet other artists in the community, get more followers on your social media, improve your artistic skills and so on. Anyway, it’s a great opportunity to showcase your art on the internet. I will share my experiences on my previews Inktobers in the future.

But, for someone who has a lot of personal projects to do (like mangas, fan arts, and original arts), and has a full-time job to make ends meet like me, Inktober is taking me a lot of time for my own personal art. It’s been a long time since I haven’t done anything about my own mangas/comics, or doing more personal fan arts. And I still don’t have the freedom to do all that all day and night.

After reading a lot of books about art marketing, art life, and life itself, I’ve been thinking a lot about my own artistic life and life, and I’m starting to think that I’m getting away from the path I want to take. This is one of the reasons that I closed commissions for now. I needed to take a break from art commissions. I need to go back to where I was before I started to take a full-time job. Before I was a full-time freelance artist. Before I messed up with my life in the past.

Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for reading if you went this far. If you’re going to participate in Inktober I hope to see you there. And as always, keep making something awesome.
