LET'S GO. BONE THUGS

Alex Brent

Definitely Bone Thugs. And I love FlyLo but Cosmogramma is not hip hop

Ben Nadeau

This is a no-brainer lol BONE THUGS

Ben Nadeau

I’d argue for it’s hip-hop elements but it’s more of an electronic album. If “You’re Dead!” was maybe ten years or so older then it’d be in conversation here imo. Spectacular project that cemented FlyLo as a leader in hip-hop production; proof that he can make weirdo noises over skittering percussion and then in the same breath frictionlessly put Snoop on an equally weirdo beat. Then there’s the Kendrick collab “Never Catch Me” which is both artists working at their highest level. No small feat considering the two men involved lol I mean it’s genuinely thrilling to listen to two masters lay down the track that would lead to so many heights of the modern hip-hop landscape. Direct line from You’re Dead!” to “TPAB”. But in this poll, Bone Thugs are really the only choice.

Beezy was right about these weak ass selections lmaoo

Core

Yes it fucking is lol. Not everything has to be a dry and straightforward as a Madlib beat or even Los Angeles to be hip hop. Are there clearly other genres mixed in? For sure. But stop giving cool stuff to other genres just cuz it doesn’t sound exactly like it contemporaries. That’s literally his appeal.

BlueZones

It’s definitely instrumental hip-hop with some IDM thrown in

I've been wanting this Bone Thugs review for so long. Can't wait for this

Ben Nadeau

Idk man maybe I just haven’t listened to it recently enough. It’s definitely Hip-Hop as I said in my previous post I’m just agreeing (with reservations!) that it’s got plenty of other flavors mixed in.

Is Cosmogramma really hip hop? I love that album but id consider it more electronic

BlueZones

Oh for sure, I don’t think there’s any denying that he’s pulling from a lot of hip-hop and electronic music simultaneously but I think the end product fits pretty squarely in the genre of instrumental hip-hop.

I’d love to get their thoughts on Arrested Developments
